If it suspects fraud, it is indefinite. no time limit statute.

so if one is MS for extra cash, shouldn't that be declared as extra income?

Feel free to do that if you are compelled to.

No. Because credit card rewards are considered as Rebates which are not subject to tax.

What you MS, essentially is just to earn rewards on your credit cards. The reward is the SAME for those who never know about MS. It is the benefits for ALL card holders - whether your spend is real spend or manufactured spend, makes no difference.

OTOH, bonuses earned from BANKING PRODUCTS, i.e. checking / saving accounts, are considered as pseudo Interests, hence subject to tax.

Keeping the gift card packaging is not necessary. I can't think of a scenario where you would end up needing it.

Same. I put in one envelope the receipt where I bought the GCs, the physical GCs (drained) and the kate receipts. Then seal the envelope and date it with what's inside.

I just scan the recipes of the various transactions, cards get shredded days later once everything is verified loaded..

I'm low volume though!

If I buy GCs, I keep receipt and card in package until used to feed BB or purchase MO. I trash GC receipt, card and pkg after this step.

I keep BB load receipt until verified online. I keep MO receipt/stub until MO deposited and cleared bank.

If I feed RB w/ CC, will keep receipt until verified online, then trash.

ETA: I only keep receipts during the period I'm "at risk" in terms of unused GCs, MOs in transit, etc. Once these items have been turned into cash, receipts to me are pointless.

Depends on the product. For some cards at point of purchase a bar code that is on the card itself is scanned. For some it is on the packaging. You might need the packaging in the latter if the card wasn't properly activated.

I throw everything in a bankers box and mark the dates on them. I have plenty of space in the basement to store these boxes so it's no big deal. When I destroy them I use an industrial shredding company as mentioned above. I also throw my other mail with personal info and proprietary work stuff in there.

I keep everything- receipts for GC, the GC, and the MO or the BB load receipt, just in case of a legit LEO comes a knockin'. My OCD isn't developed enough to have it completely organized.

For those of you who keep receipts and GC packages and don't digitize/scan them, it used to be an issue with the ink fading on receipts over time, maybe we should all start getting into the habit of scanning everything. I used to do more MS which would have been a hassle to scan so many receipts/packages, but I've lowered my MS volumn now so it shouldn't be too much work to scan them.

I use Evernote. It's a multiplatform app, so you can use it on all your phones and computers. You just use Evernote to take photos or your receipts, etc., and you're done. It has built in OCR, so I don't need to "organize" anything...I can later just do a search for whatever item I'm looking for. If I ever get audited, I can print stuff out if necessary, or search for particular items if necessary. One time when I had a problem with a Reloadit card, it was a snap to send in all the ridiculous documentation they insisted on. I think they were a little shocked that I could email them copies of everything, and they had no choice but to issue me a refund.

I just make a note in Mint on the purchase as to what MS goal it went towards so I can explain if audited.

I also use Evernote. I am careful with all MOs I've purchased, saved all stubs attached to store receipts and GCs. I just file them by month in shoeboxes. I plan to keep them the length of time that I keep my tax documents.
