Does not work anymore, is dead..... what is the point to report 'not working'?
As of 08/25/2014, Bancorp cards (Vanilla Visa, OneVanilla, etc.) are rarely working first try for debit transactions at Walmart. There is no apparent geographical basis. Basically, it's a crapshoot.
Do not agitate a cashier or store and lose the ability to make these transactions in the future. Multiple failed swipes or transactions will likely increase scrutiny. You do not want that. It is best to stop using these cards.
Vanilla VISA defaulting to credit
As of 5/29/2014, at most Walmart locations, all Vanilla VISA cards issued by The Bancorp Bank are automatically recognized as credit. Most Mastercard have required a workaround for some time. The MoneyCenter Express (ATM, kiosk, Kate) is not affected by this change.

I have to admit, the more people post about this, the more it sounds like regional problems associated with software or hardware updates.

I had success Friday, failure Saturday, didn't try Sunday and had 1 work today on the 1st swipe and then nothing after.
I'll agree that it was likely a SW/HW issue vs. a sweeping change, otherwise I wouldn't have had that 1 work this a.m.

Working again in Madison. 2 OVs -- first card 2 swipes, second card 1 swipe. I'll buy a few more and hope tomorrow works as well.

This morning I bought $4K of MOs using 2 OVs, 2 VVs and 4 Simons. The first OV took 2 swipes, the second one and the VVs took only 1 swipe.

You're amazing. Although I completely disagree with your strategy because I don't think 99% of us would be able to pull it off, I give you a lot of props for being so good at it.
Out of curiosity, what do you do while they are helping you? Small talk? Any topics you recommend?
Also, what is your profile? White, male, 40s, I am assuming? How are you dressed during these encounters?
I am not being facetious, I am genuinely curious how you work your magic. I would have a police escort out of the store if I tried some of the things you write about here.

FWIW, it's not just him. The staff at this particular WM are, in general, very nice people. Not just the SC/MC staff, but pretty much everyone.
It's clearly something from their management teams way of running the store as the WM down the road is a completely miserable place to enter.

I went to Walmart to reload my OVs. However, besides asking for my pin, it asked for a 9 digit pin. Where can I find the 9 digit pin?

in the bay area and in the areas near downtown and/or any lower income area, i have found i have to scale back my friendliness! i'm naturally talkative and chat with cashiers. i've found, if they don't know me, if i walk up friendly and do something as innocuous as a nice friendly 'hi', you can actually see the wheels turning, 'he's up to no good' (my perception is that the dumb criminals are overly friendly, and it's a 'tell').
in the burbs there isn't that built in suspicion triggered- well, except older (think grey haired grandma age) white ladies in the south- they look at me like, 'i don't know what you think you're about to pull, but it's not working with me buster'!
when i sense i've got a vigilante, that's when i will make the first swipe with a 'real' debit card. maybe even the second swipe- figuring the s/he will want to see it. i view it as a small investment with future returns. once they've seen 'real' debit cards, they never ask again. granted my 'real' one is always in plain view when i walk up- part of the theater.

I will check again today and see what the verdict. hopefully it was just a transient issue with software or something.
