Great. I never tried any neighborhood Walmart since the nearest neighborhood walmart is 8 miles away from my house. 3 super walmarts are within 3 miles from my house/office. I will try to stop by this neighborhood sometime to see if it is codes as grocery stores by AMEX.

This is not true at all.

You can check your nearest merchants and see how each is coded here: https://www.visa.com/supplierlocator/index.jsp. Around me, some Walmarts are grocery stores.

I know about this website, but it's not accurate.

One of the Targets is listed as a discount store, but it's actually is coded as a grocery with WF.

I usually do a test first to see how it's coded

As others have correctly noted, there are a variety of MCCs used for Target. In fact, there are even reports of different MCCs for different registers (e.g. Customer Service vs. Electronics vs. Grocery).

With that being said, many issuers are smart enough to purposely exclude Target from spending category bonuses, regardless of MCC. I believe someone reported earning the usual 1% on a "grocery Target" with the Chase Freedom this month. So finding a "grocery Target" may not be the windfall it appears to be!

Personally, I'm very interested to see how Redbirds code at "grocery Targets." But I don't have my hopes up...

RedBirds code as grocery at my Target using my Penfed....Wish it was still 3% but after devaluation I think it ends up like 2.5%. Still beats 2%!
