MVD statement shows this as a PIN transaction (even though no PIN was requested), and therefore, a $0.50 charge.

I would suggest that if we want to keep this going, DO NOT make $500 payments from gift cards.

Tomorrow will try the TD Bank Debit card - though I believe there is a max transaction limit of $2000 - need to double check this.

2k per rolling 7 days, that's what I read around. We are talking about buxx.

Got a few more questions from the CSR on today's call. . .

Yesterday, I used a USBuxx card to pay $450 on a citi dividend. No questions asked, yet the csr did take notice that I was current on my account and next payment wasn't due until next month. I didn't seem to concern her, she just noticed it as odd. I just mentioned I like to make a few payments when I have some money, so the cc debt doesn't pile up over the month. Then, no questions asked and smooth sailing.

Today, I used my second USBuxx to pay $600 on a second citi dividend. The CSR asked for the name printed on the debit card and said it must match my cc account. She also said the address associated with the debit card must be the same address on my cc account. She was not firm, stern or annoyed at all. She was very friendly and the tone was like a "oh, and by the way. . . ". She actually seemed excited to get my payment. Perhaps they spend so much time trying to claw money from deadbeats that it is refreshing when someone calls in volunteering to pay. I did some telemarketing when I was younger and it was one of my worst jobs. I can't imagine how dreadful collections calls must be.

Successfully paid with UFB Direct. Not sure if I'll get the miles though, since it was coded as a "bill pay."

I called the number on the back of my Citi Dividend card, and asked to make a debit card payment. The representative told me that they are only able to accept check (ACH) payments.

Anyone have any luck using a Momentum debit card?

Data Point. Just paid off my Citi Dividend Card. Needed to be transferred to a specialist but the specialist was happy to pay off my full current balance using my Momentum Visa Debit Card. Payment was under $1,000 but went through without a hitch. Yay!

How much would Citi pay per transaction this way versus ACH or other common payment methods? I think the marginal cost would have to be quite a lot for them to take a payment method off the table.

1x (or more x) delinquent account calling to make ACH payment, vs. the scale that us MS'ers would be tempted to do, daily/weekly/monthly @ 500 per GC will ultimately clog up their collections CSRs and get them wondering why this is happening.... thereby causing them to close this loophole and/ or take AA for those who have gamed the system.... just my 2 cents.....

I wouldn't avail of this... no hate for those that do or have, just not my cup of tea, considering (I can only assume) the time it takes to get to the right CSR and then have a bill paid...... maybe via a BUXX or MVD product if it's one call for multiple K, but not worth the effort - again IMO - for a $500 payment...

Wife just called in to pay down her balance (this was not to generate MS specifically, it's to allow her to meet the spend requirement on a Citi card that came with a ridiculously low credit line, so she has to make a couple payments each month to hit her minimum spend while staying below 100% credit utilization).

As reported upthread, CSR was friendly and easy to deal with. Was not transferred to "collections", the CSR who came online first was able to complete the transaction. CSR initially said she was not used to doing debit card payments and had to remember how to log in to some separate page/system to do that, but was able to do it. Only things asked were:
- is name on debit card same as on CC account
- is address on debit card same as on CC account
- debit card number, expiration date and security code
- how much she wanted to pay
Smooth and easy.

FWIW, I agree with all the posters here urging caution - I would not use this as a shortcut to churn MS since it seems pretty fragile. We will be using this a couple more times for small amounts just to stay under her credit limit. I fear that the lack of restraint so often evidenced here will wreck this quickly. I hope I'll be proved wrong about that.

Thanks OP -- will try this with an MVD soon. Someone upthread tried $2500 ... the limit should be $5000 because that's MVD's cap. And there's an $8k/week and $10k/month cap as well.

Please post back. I plan to do this once my AA Exec card gets to me this week!

Used TD Bank Debit card today for $1980 - same as yesterday with the MVD - very straight forward - and reduces your balance (and increases your available credit) immediately.

I feel like I want to open some new Citi cards :) But will hold until my FICO restores

Is it possible that the reason why metabank cards don't work is that, citi systems are unable to auto determine the transaction pin, even though we are not asked for it? The transaction descriptions of most of the successful transactions indicate that the cards were run as pin based debit transactions. Therefore, I wonder if there is a way for CSR to enter a definite correct pin, and whether or not the transaction can then go through?

Just a thought

Also, for the person that asked,

Yes, Bancorp cards do in fact work. a Bancorp card is what I first used when I discovered that this does in fact work with prepaids in the first place

I have been doing this for the past two days without any issues. Today though, the collections agent did open with, "I'm not sure why you're being transferred here." I told her I asked to make a debit card payment on my account and was transferred. She then said, "We shouldn't be taking debit card payments for current accounts but let me see if I can help you process it anyway." She was very pleasant and polite and processed my payment very efficiently, but her comments do make me wonder if they're starting to see unusual debit card payment volume and what this means for this method of unloading prepaid debit cards going forward.

Actually, I was able to do a $1000 mobile payment on the AA Exec card, and then a payment for the balance (>$9000) the next day on the web by pulling it from my bank account.

But I would have used MVD if I had known. Oh well.

^ But, I reserve the right to try it once myself if I am sick or out of town with no paperwork and can't wait 2 days for a sent payment to post. :D
