Yes, indeed. There was a time in my dark past when to my shame I will admit that I paid for my airfare. But then I had received divine inspiration when watching the late Martin Luther King speak to the poor huddled masses of nOObs. And it was revealed that I should pay for airfare no more when Dr. King uttered those immortal words -

"Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

>Even the revered ADK was (I'm guessin) a n00b at some point.

If the MS thread is limited here, it will pop up somewhere else. There's no point.

Well RFD, you sure seem prophetic about now. How many unnecessary new threads asking basic questions have been started by 'Jan2014'ers in the last week? A dozen?

Perhaps we can add this to our meeting agenda next week :D

Same here....

..and one of them would keep asking: "r u using the same bb number?":D

Gosh..

Still, I don't think we need to limit the access.

Coming from a "Mar2013'er" - what an old timer!

Proposal and Discussion: Limit the MS thread access

Limiting this forum is unreasonable. Do you have to deal with what you think are basic questions sometimes? Yes. But they aren't basic to everyone, and everyone was a newbie at some point.

I spent 3 months reading blogs and FT forums before signing up for an account and posting. I read re-read and do it all again, but sometimes I still have a question, much like everyone else I assume. What's infuriating to me is to be reading a thread and 80% of the posts are the veterans being rude and telling people to go read or sharing inside jokes and clogging threads. If you really think it's a basic stupid question either answer or don't, it's really pretty simple.

One thing that I have found immensely helpful is the wiki for the AP page. I had a bunch of questions, but read the wiki which indicated my question had been answered in the thread. Boom, off to page 1 I go, no questions asked and I found my answer. I'm not saying it would work for every thread but it's damn useful.

Perhaps an alternative to closing down the MS thread might be to ask all newbies to read closely before executing. You know what they say about one bad apple.

Other than this.. information and knowledge should be free for all.

Regulars/Experts need to be a bit more understanding with newbie questions and yet we need to encourage newbies to DD when possible.. instead of providing free answers we can point in the right direction.

The real issue is the newbies don't even read the Wiki on pages that have them and still ask questions, that answer that question. Yes, it happens that veterans do chop at the newbie. I admire you for READING and REREADING threads to understand what they are getting into...

In the world of MS, it's not just one or ten, but fifty newbies who don't read the thread and just post because they can...

I agree that basic reading will go a long way, but sometimes there is just a lingering question. Even though I had read and read and read and followed a Wiki, I STILL ended up with a question on something. I posted my question, and it was you who actually chopped at me to read the Wiki. I had before I posted, and I read it all again, but I was still having trouble. It may bother you, or you might think it's basic, but sometimes we still have questions after reading.

I agree questions need to be asked sometimes. But a new thread on what is probably the most basic building block of MS right now (CC-->VR-->BB)?

Followed closely by 50 posts by people who just can't stop themselves from replying with a reprimand rather than just ignore the question.

I understand being upset about new threads when the one in progress will answer the question, but yelling at people in a thread when they are trying (really trying) to get it and hopefully contribute someday is more what I mean.

Good. Then they'll learn to actually read, or post in the correct place. ^
