The CVS noose continues to tighten around us. We may eventually have to get much more creative going forward, which is a shame. There are CVS stores everywhere in Atlanta. Losing it as a viable option would make my hobby far less convenient. I'm crossing my fingers that the recent diligence by CVS clerks will pass.

Sometimes I read it to them so that they don't have to look too hard. Last night when I bought my OV, the cashier threw my AGC in the trash after I gave them to her to get the 4digit. After the transaction, I asked to give it back so I can keep them for my record. She picked them out of the trash and gave them back to me.

They do not need to see the card - they just need the last 4 #'s

The cashier insisted on seeing the card when I went to swipe it and claimed it was the new corporate policy not to accept it for gift card purchases. I seriously doubt that is true since I used the same form of payment to buy a couple gift cards at a different CVS yesterday, but who knows? Perhaps the gravy train is coming to an end sooner rather than later.

A couple of my stores have been like that for six months or more. It's a store by store thing.

Did CVS go to a rolling 24 hour 5k limit?

I bought yesterday at 11:49 AM and attempted again today at 11:30 ish AM and got the 'reached daily limit' decline. I thought it cut over around 6pm.

Yes, it's now a rolling 24

Losing CVS would severely cripple our game. Until the disAAdvantage devaluation, we could cruise along on regular spend, paying total attention to quarterly spending bonuses, etc. Now having to do 7 $10K spend ccs just to cover two FC TATL awards, we really need CVS/OV/WMBP to keep working.

Can anyone who has read this thread from somewhere near the beginning tell me if the quote above is true, or have there been this many reports of individual stores not working all along?

The poster was reacting to one particular avenue - CVS becoming less willing to let people buy gift cards with other gift cards (notably AMEX GC's). This has been YMMV forever.

GC's are still available at CVS, and a bunch of other places, with a credit card, albeit the net costs are higher.

"I Choose You"

A song about Post-TYP Traumatic Stress syndrome (and using a couple Amex Blues to stave that off)

Let the TYP year end, let it come down crashing
Let that unlimited points fun fade out to a dark sky
I can use these Amex Blues now that Citi is absent
Cause I could MS by these other 5x CCs with which I buy

I'll try and move credit around for you
That would have strung together
The very first words
Of a customer service letter

Tell the world that we finally got our credit all right
I choose Blue
I will become your Authorized User and you will become mine
I choose Blue
I choose Blue
(Yeah)

There was a time when I would have believed them
If they told me making CB on this could not come true
Just an MS blog illusion
But then you signed me up and everything changed
And I believe in something again

My whole card
Will be yours forever
This is a beautiful start
To an extended credit line secured letter

Tell the world that we finally got our credit all right
I choose Blue
I will become your Authorized User and you will become mine
I choose Blue
I choose Blue

We are not perfect
We'll learn from our deal-outing mistakes
And as long as it takes
I will prove my love of MS to you

I am not scared of the blogged elements
I am a FT newbie and under-prepared, but I am willing
And even better
I get to be the Authorized User of you

Tell the world that we finally got our credit all right
I choose Blue
I will become your Authorized User and you will become mine
I choose Blue
I choose Blue
I choose Blue

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I have been personally buying OVs at CVS to make our min spnd for multiple AA Exec ccs. It's still working fine for me.

I wasn't only asking about this OP, but about a number of recent posts:

Each of which is an "individual store issue", but in aggregate could seem to be the "noose tightening". Or maybe just people posting when there is a problem, and not thinking to post when everything is fine as usual. I'm hoping to have someone reassure me it's the latter. :)

Not sure if anyone has had this happen to them, but I went to CVS to buy 2 OVs and the cashier said that he needed my ID and typed away at the computer while looking at my ID.

While I don't really care, just wanted to give everyone the heads up. BTW, I hadn't purchased any GC at this or any CVS for a couple of days.

Sorry. I wasn't trying to start a panic, but rather, just provide a data point. We don't know yet where this will wind up. Based on others' reports and my own limited experience, it is stricter at some CVS stores now, but other stores are still chugging along just fine. As far as I know, all CVS in Atlanta will still take a credit card for gift cards, even though they are turning down the Amex Gift Cards as payment. So for those hitting minimum spend on new credit cards, all is still well.

I totally understand that. But it doesn't answer my question of whether or not CVS is slowly, instead of by national deadline, sliding into cash only. Since there are probably thousands of stores, just a few changing their policy doesn't necessarily mean anything. All I was asking was are the reports of failed attempts speeding up, or is this pretty much how it's always been?
