Costco does not sell money orders.

Thank you and HELP! ;)

Hellooo,

I've been a lurky person here for about 6 months and want to say thank you to all of you for sharing your valuable info. You've helped me afford travel that I woud have never been able to before. I've been able to get:
Chase Saphire
Airtran
Venture
AA business
AA personal
Amex Premier (twice)
Amex Delta
Amex Hilton
Amex SPG personal
Amex SPG business
British Airways
US Airways
I've hit a wall now though because I keep getting rejected from too many inquiries. I guess I'll have to lay off the applications for a few months...it's so hard though, there's so many more to be had! I'm so addicted to this.

Now comes the HELP! part: I know a good way to handle the high speding requirements on non-Amex cards but I'm at a loss with my SPG Amex cards. I've got to spend $4500 on each card in 3 months. I was hoping to try the mint but of course that gets cancelled right when I need it.

I'm not sure what to do. I read hours of posts under the Life after the Mint and other threads but I can't really find anything really that will work for me. I've already paid up my insurance policies as much as I can and I don't really have much in expenses...rent, noodles, utility, and sometimes concert tickets, that's it!

I thought about buying refundable tickets and checked out Carnival Cruise, but it costs a few hundred for a refundable ticket option. I also thought about buying gift cards but I can't really afford to have $9,000 tied up in gift cards forever. It would take me a year or two to spend that. I don't have any friends or family making large purchases either.

Any brilliant ideas out there???

Keep getting rejected for too many inquiries? Seriously?

Take a look at this thread if you want to get your spend up without the US Mint:

Most of these are not free, but they may make sense if you are earning some signficant bonuses for crossing spending thresholds:

Property tax payments on vehicle(s): Cost usually = 2-3%
Income tax payments: Cost = 2-3%
Charitable donations you would otherwise make in cash

Just sit it out for a bit in the penalty box since you have to generate spend anyway.

Most spend now has to be met by accelerating purchases ala gift cards, prepaying expenses, or creating artificial spend via payment accounts (which incurs various fees). You can buy hotel gift cards or airline gift cards if you travel or grocery store gift cards (the proprietary no fee type) if you always shop a particular market.

You may be able to get some coin-on-a-string via Amazon Payments but you would have to have another account to pass money back and forth. And then there is the big product returned to the store game...

I'm manufacturing Delta miles by ping ponging Skymile accounts, some of the others are Home Depot Gift Carding miles with United.

$9,000 is alot of mintless spend. Do suspect gift cards are in your future.

I am hooked on CC Bonuses as well. Best game ever. Haha.

You can take a look at a good post by million mile secrets about reaching the spend.

I hope your credit has taken too large of a hit from those rejections.

Sounds like FT created a monster Have to be careful with the too many applications issue. Just take a break for a bit and spend on the cards. If you can't comfortably meet the spend levels then just let it go. Better to miss out on some miles instead of putting yourself in a bind.

re

Bit off more than you could chew? sounds like you should cancel one of the SPG cards. It would cut your spend requirement in half and show creditors that you are closing accounts as well as opening them.

I fail to see how this helps the OP. There is NO benefit to canceling a newly received card unless it was a complete mistake and you want to avoid an annual fee. There's no penalty for not reaching the spend threshold, just amounts to a wasted application, which at this point cannot be remedied.

So OP should attempt to show creditors she is churning?

You bring up a good point. When folks are considering signing up for a card with spend dollars involved, it would be a good idea to program out your credit card sign ups. This way, you'll be able to meet the spend requirements. I know it's hard to wait, but the wise Flyertalker learns that patience will be rewarded.

Welcome to Flyertalk Ms Miles404.

Yeah, she shoulda Aeroplanned insteada SPG'd. Mighta had a free Canadian beer run, eh! (for 1,000 spend) or continued over to Miquelon via a puddle jumper for some French wines.

A bit ironic, I guess. "Overextended" on credit cards w/o yet spending a dime.
