MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
- You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
- You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
- Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
- Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
- Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
- Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
- If your bid is accepted:
- The credit card will be charged
- You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
- You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
- You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
- Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
- Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
- There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.

The email is sent out by default to those who are eligible, even when nobody is actually processing the bids. But someone recently reported his/her bid being accepted, so I'm guessing MHUpgrade might be live again.

I think MH has adjusted the minimum bid for MH Upgrade seeing that a lot of people are taking advantage of it after some time.
Used to bid the minimum around RM500 for KUL-PER with success 2 years ago, and now it was a minimum bid of RM800 to start during my flight in Sep 2017, not to even mention the aircraft has been changed from A330 to B737.

KUL to SYD original min bid RM1213. Noticed minimum was increased to RM1400 couple days before online check in.
Did not receive email to increase bid either and bid was not accepted.
Will try luck with “last min upgrade” at checkin and report back.
Anyone know if the biz check in counters in KLIA can process paid upgrades or must I use the official ticketing counter?

Both are short haul which means likely it'll be the 737-800.
Depending on how long you have to stay in airport. If you are able to spend some time in their lounge, then i'd reckon it is good value. Otherwise, I wouldn't go for it.
Just my opinion anyway.

On a side note with some OTA bookings, your email address may or may not be registered under the booking, I've had to manually update my email under MH's Manage Booking.
