Ive booked the MO Club City at an effective rate of $130US. The other hotels couldnt compete price-wise given the Centurion benes. If anyone thinks Im crazy, please speak up! : )

If you get a Club upgrade for $130, you can get it all back in Champagne alone! Nice deal.

That is an unbelievable rate even with the current economy. Enjoy ^

The RC feels and is more luxurious than the MO, i think. But for the right price the MO is more than sufficient, and the club room perfectly fine. I also am in the minority in liking the pool--terrible place to hang out but great for laps.

Not sure the R-C feels more luxurious these days as it is in desperate need of a major refurbishment. I know what you mean about the MO pool - big but not terribly beautiful. I love the MO Club Lounge - best part of the hotel. I just wish they had done the whole place in this style.

Does the MO manage the Marina Mandarin property at all?

From reading the first post in this thread it seems to appear very negative towards MO. Although I did notice the posting date. Forbes has rated this a top hotel for 2011 ...so I am a bit confused. I am Stopping off in Singapore for a couple of days (Honeymoon) and wanted to find out if Conrad and their lounge is in the same league as the MO and their lounge?

Thanks!

Really really awful hotel. Please dont go on honeymoon. It is like a 1970s Sheraton. Club lounge ran out of food when we stayed. No service to speak of. Alcohol hours limited I think as suddenly everyone piles in- it is a free for all. Silver surfers and students trying to squeeze every last drop. My leg was cut on a faulty chair- didn't even get me a plaster. 1 year on my leg is still scarred. Childrens doom (I meant room but it's quite an apt slip) was damp with used toiletries.

No way is it 5 star or a luxury hotel. Don't even have doormen for long periods. It is like a motel.

Book ritz Carlton next door. Club lounge is amazing. Champagne all day. Service is fabulous.

My opinion is pretty much diametrically opposed. And I have stayed at this MO many, many times. One of the best clubs in the world, awesome service, one of the first hotels in the world to offer high tech rooms that one can plug their Apple device or laptop PC into, with excellent Bose speakers in the Oriental Suite. Morton's is of course an excellent restaurant, there is a nice large pool, yoga classes, etc.

My only caveat is that I haven't been in the last couple years. So it could have taken a violent dive down, but I really doubt it. And it was never like a 1970's Sheraton!

But as I noted above, the nearby Ritz is roughly the same class of hotel. I don't think you could go wrong with either property.

And westcoastbmx, if you are a frequent flyer, surely you can swing by SIN in advance and try out these hotels to make sure your honeymoon goes smoothly.

I am no fan of the MO chain and find most of their properties mediocre except for MO Bangkok and LMO in Hong Kong. Having stayed at the MO Singapore before, I will not be surprised by the lack of service although I also think that saying it is a 1970s Sheraton is a bit overboard.

I do however agree and highly recommend the Ritz Carlton which I now think is easily the best in Singapore after their successful room renovation to bring the "hardware" up to par. It's now my hotel of choice there. To ensure a successful stay, it will be better to write in to their management and tell them you are on honeymoon and one of their managers will then take care of your reservation and ensure everything is in good order.

Thanks!
I stayed there in May 2011 and really enjoyed my 3 nights stay in a Club Room
Booked a package including airport pick up (Mercedes E class with cold towel & water)
I was greeted by a host in front of the hotel for a fast in room check in.
Upgrade to a junior suite,
Club lounge staffed very nice and efficient :
- they even go out to buy me some pineapple tarts (I only asked them where to buy some and they offered to buy them for me)
- An afternoon, I went to the lounge and found no more salmon sandwich and they brought me a plate full of them.
- Escort each guest to a table and ask them what they want to drink (despite they do have self service)
- Name calling all the times
Very late check out was extended (believe 7 pm !) and I was able to use a conference room at the club after that to finish my work before catching a midnight flight.
The breakfast in the restaurant has a VERY large selection and is also good
The pool was renovated beginning 2011 and is now very nice, comfortable day bed and free ice cream / smoothie from time to time
I'd rate this MO almost at the same level than the HK one.
The few cons are :
- Small SPA with no wet area (believe they have one couple suite with a steam, you may be able to use it if available)
- Location is OK but relatively far from Orchard road. (MO & RC are next to each other)

However IMO this is not a romantic hotel. The Capella hotel is extremely relaxing but located in Santosa at about 20 mns drive from Singapore (even if you don't stay at Capella , go there for dinner, the service and the food are great)

Gosh it's amazing how people's opinions vary! I visit Singapore a lot on account of being married to a native and us having an office there. I love the MO so much it is slightly embarrassing as it is my favourite hotel in the world (I did kind of get engaged there but even excluding that one-off the service has always been tremendous and I love the rooms). I'd pick the Conrad second and then Ritz Carlton where I had several shockers albeit mainly back when they were building the MRT and then the casino and construction was going well into the night on occasion. I also find the sound-proofing to the corridors not great and air-con can be brutal (I once had it switched off for the whole week and the room was more than cool enough from the air coming from next door's bathroom into my bathroom and then into the room through the wooden slits in the door...

Maybe Ritz Carlton got better - if so I guess I might give it a shot at some point?

Exactly why I suggested he make a pre-honeymoon visit to determine for himself which hotel is best for him and his bride. Some people have very different reactions to hotels. It's always surprising to me that someone could find a hotel completely different than I found it, but it happens.
