Thumbs down MO Singapore - Quick review

Just checked into the MO Singapore tonight, and having stayed at various MO properties this is probably the worst of the MO property so far.

Booked a Club Harbour view room and reserved a Limo pickup at the airport. A few problems so far:
(1) Limo driver holding a name card with a mispelling of the last name
(2) Received a club room on the highest floor (21st floor) harbour view. However, the windows are not sound proof and one can hear the traffic noise below.
(3) The room is tiny.
(4) Molton Brown toletries but the extremely small miniature sample version
(5) I was escorted to the room for check-in, but was not told the Club benefits which included the 2 pieces of garment pressing, free local calls, choice of newspaper, private check out, exclusive use of the lounge
(6) Requested the clothes pressing - took an hour before someone came up. Was told the pressing wont be done until morning (?!?!?)
(7) 40 minutes for a simple room service - Soup and sandwich

On the plus side:
(1) Room is renovated
(2) The lounge is fantastic - with a very nice selection of food and free wireless internet

The MO also gets an unexciting review in the September issue of Gallivanters Guide. Although, to be fair, none of the hotels they visited - the MO, the R-C, the FS, Shangri-La Valley Wing - got a five star report. They went for the FS as top pick but with the caveat that the room renovation won't be done for a year.

I was far from impressed with the MO as well when I stayed there last year. I did not stay in a club room, but the whole hotel felt more like a convention hotel that an exclusive 5* property. No where near the standard of the MO in BKK or HK.

FS is my personal fav in SIN, but have not stayed there since 2004, so the view could be out of date now.

Representing the minority here I had a very pleasant stay at MO SIN last year in a Harbour View Club Room. Great club lounge with excellent service, great food and nicely renovated rooms. The atrium style may not be of appeal to everyone but neither is MO's BKK lobby or its exterior to me. And the garanteed 8 p.m. check-out time club room amenity is a treat for late evening departures to Europe...

It's a good hotel. Not brilliant, but certainly good, IMHO. And yes, the 8pm checkout is often the dealbreaker, for me at least.

Having just returned from the MO in BKK (a couple of weeks ago), I'm very surprised at your comments. The MO in BKK is far inferior in my experience. I certainly wouldn't go back to the MO, overpriced and with a lacking service. I'll write a report soon, but next time I'll be in BKK I'll go straight to the Sukhothai where I stayed about a month ago. I was looking forward to my stay at the MO in BKK as it is said to be the best hotel in the world or among the best. I spent a night in a club room in SIN last december and I loved it (even though rooms are a bit small); my stay in SIN had me booking the MO in BKK. The breakfast spread (buffet) at the MO in SIN is vastly superior; the one in BKK is subpar, inferior to the buffet I had at the Silom Holiday Inn.

Well that just highlights why different types of hotels thrive in each city around the world, as one person will love a certain hotel, whilst another will hate it!!

Is it the case that the MO in Singapore has gotten old and out of date? It was top of the game when new. Last time I was there the service was far below what I've gotten used to in Singapore.

The Singapore MO was renovated a couple of years ago. I think the rooms are a little small but the service good and the club room great. For swimming laps, the pool is excellent (25m), but not very pleasant if you just to hang out there.

I was not impressed by either the MO Singapore or the MO BKK. Service levels at both hotels were lacking. At least, at the MO BKK, the F&B and Spa were excellent. I did not find much redeeming about the MO SIN.

Lets not forget that The Oriental Singapore is part of a development (Marina Square) consisting of a shopping mall and 3 hotel towers all sharing similar architecture and colour scheme. If not for the logo, you wont even know its a MO ...
