I will be focusing a little more on my attempt to unravel the mystery of Aman Resorts. Part of my mission was to find out, 'Why all the fuss about Aman', and I did in fact get to the bottom of this question.

Upon arrival, I was met after alighting from the Jetbridge, by a private arrival service representative contracted by Amandari, who guided me effortlessly through all the various immigration and security queues in a somewhat chaotic environment. This was an invaluable service and saved a lot of time and a big headache upon arrival. The airport was very, very busy, and being able to jump just about every queue was a god-send. The arrival service is included by Aman, and makes selecting Aman a very good choice, although I understand some arrival services are available for the general public as well. Arrival service in Bali is a must in my opinion.
The arrival service representative assisted me in collecting my luggage, and then passed me along to a white clad Amandari employee who greeted me and assisted me in the rest of the way to the waiting Amandari vehicle. The vehicle was not a luxury vehicle, but was a comfortable and clean mini van, and I was offered a cold cloth, a cold bottle of water, and some peanut snacks for the hour or so drive to Amandari, which is located in Ubud, to the north of the airport. The extremely pleasant and efficient arrival made me feel welcome and extraordinarily well taken care of, and the pleasant drive with a very helpful driver who explained many things about Bali along the way, was an extraordinary way to arrive. It was an appropriate introduction to Aman Resorts. and discussion here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...ip-report.html |

A "good" start for Aman - I don't think so

DLF Ltd. is close to finalizing a deal to sell its hospitality business to China’s HNA Group, the Financial Express newspaper reported Tuesday, citing sources it didn’t name. The real estate company will sell Aman Resorts for around 24 billion rupees ($452 million) in a deal which will be finalized by Jan. 15, the report said. |

Unfortunately, most of the Muslim world has become this way. Why don't we stop trading with Qataris, Bahrainis, Saudis,....? What must be said however is that these guys do have good taste and should keep up Aman resorts in high standards.

Regarding their taste I think we can not generalize. There are people with "good" taste everywhere and it depends also on the definition of what is "good". |
Anybody want a size small Amanjunkie shirt?
It doesn't fit me and my GF won't wear it. New and never worn. This was a gift from Amanpulo. Parrot not included. PM me if interested.

Another good Resort bites dust!
China HNA has a poor track record and soon you will see bus loads at resorts to maintain profitability. I doubt any good managers will stay........deal is on track and sadly it was first mistake to sell to DLF and now nail in coffin!

I look back at many great Aman experiences and will enjoy them as long as it lasts. Of course I hoped LVMH or even Starwoods (at least they are western and have a track record with their "luxury collection" including places like the Gritti in Venice) would have taken over. Now we have the integrists or the "spaghetti" communists options. |

I once heard a story about an investor who wanted to build an Aman Resort. He invited Aman's founder, Adrian Zecha to see the location, and when Adrian stood on the land and pointed saying "Over there would be perfect", the investor looked at him and said, "But I don't own that piece." Adrian apparently said "That's too bad, call me back when you do" and left. The investor did and an Aman property now sits perfectly where it was always meant to be. http://www.hotelnewsnow.com/Articles...se-Europe-news "HNA calls off €431.6m deal with NH Hoteles" (aman rumored €357.8m)

HNA / China abandons bid after no response.....
http://blogs.wsj.com/dealjournalindi...n-amanresorts/ |
its nice that HNA has gone on the record twice, but then, with no other confirmation, what are we to interpret?
“in the valid period” “HNA Group does not wish to continue participating in the bidding process,” |
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/cndy/20...t_14444763.htm
"HNA Group participated in the bidding. But we did not receive any feedback information for the bid result in the period of validity. HNA Group has given up on the project," a spokeswoman told Reuters. A DLF spokesman in New Delhi denied the deal was on hold. "We do not comment on market speculation during the course of negotiations with prospective bidders," the spokesman said. A spokesman for the diversified Sahara Group, which bought London's Grosvenor House hotel from the Royal Bank of Scotland for 470 million pounds in 2010, said the group was in discussions for the luxury hotel chain a few months earlier. "Probably from then no discussion is there and Sahara is not much interested in this proposal," the spokesman said. Hospitality 4 Bids received in the second round, currently being evaluated and negotiated and 2 comments from DLF |
Other articles have speculated that all the bids have been coming in low.

In Yogyakarta in April by myself, really want to spend a few nights (or at least 2) at Amanjiwo. How is Amanjiwo for solo travellers?
The service is not necessarily important to me...I won't spend much time in the hotel (Borobudur and Prambanan being my main tours) and being a solo traveller I am not going to spend time in restuarants either. But how many single travellers do you get normally at Aman resorts? Are they treated like green aliens? |
Solo in Aman , Amankila ..

I've been at some Amans by myself, & it's quite wonderful .. Peaceful surroundings , decent food.. Have met others enjoying time on own too. Enjoying beautiful sunrises/ sunsets now at Amankila - this time with spouse. Splendid private beach dinner/ bonfire again - always love the experience whether one catches the sunset or not. Amazingly only a ferry in view . If you in the tiered pools, only a couple of fishing sampans seen :) |
Ciao guys,
does anyone know if Gary Tyson is still the GM of Amantaka? Thanks for your help. H. |

Flying in from LHR, I would preferrably like to arrive at SIN, stay a few nights and splurge at Marina Bay Sands, or Capella, and then start my budget tour. ...Malaysia doesn't appeal to me much, as a budget traveller. Of course, I would love to visit The Datai but not going to happen.

Is it possible to visit Aman properties as a guest and walk around the resort with a video camera filming the property and its amenities? Maybe get a guided tour by a member of staff?
If I was a paying guest, I could do this easily. But do I need to be a paying guest? I need the material for my YouTube channel. For example, some larger resorts have restuarants and boutique shops which the public can come and explore (and basically have access to everything except the rooms), but I am not sure how this works with something as exclusive as Aman.

Yes, very serious. I aim to travel the world and film all the best luxury hotel resorts and upload them to my YouTube account. Why would I not be serious?
If I can do this without actually paying then all the better. Don't get me wrong, I would love to visit Aman and stay at their resorts, but if I am in Phuket and wanted to use Amanpuri's restuarant, then why not film the resort before and after I eat?

I tried to book Amanjiwo in April, and the website told me no vacancies. I then emailed concierge, and he replied to say there were vacancies. Then I checked on website again, and there were no vacancies.
So now I chose Sheraton Mustika. Aman's problem, not mine. Think of the money I save.

I don't understand where people get all their money from on this forum.
If you are all millionnaires then you wouldn't be wasting time on forums on the net, you'd probably get your butler to do it for you. I've just booked 3 nights in KL - at the Furama Bukit Bintang. My budget wouldn't stretch to anything more expensive, not even Traders. :( Guess I'm in the wrong job. :td:

I am thinking of making a first ever trip to an Aman Resort in 2012, but I would be going solo on this occasion.
I have stayed at other luxury hotels on my own, such as Marina Bay Sands (don't laugh), Madinat Jumeirah Al Qasr, MO Dhara Dhevi, and Shangri-La's Boracay Resort. Please be honest with me, how strange is it to go to an Aman Resort on your own? |
