HOw about the hotel with a great concierge service? I think my stay will have issues (toutine tourist ones) and I iwll will need advice.

I think that the Four Seasons has the best Concierge team in SIN. The Fullerton was also very good but the Chef Concierge transferred to the Marina Bay Sands so I can no longer vouch for the Fullerton.

Agree on the Shangri-La Valley Wing. Recently had a great stay there with drinks/snacks throughout the day (included), breakfast (included) and decent service. Rooms are ok (not super modern, but definitely very nice), with huge bathrooms and L'Occitane toiletries. Wireless is available in the public areas, but in the room only broadband is available. The Valley Wing is really the way to go if you opt for the Shangri-La, it is a more boutique experience with separate check-in, lobby, entrance, etc, etc, compared with the other 2 wings that are huge and feel a bit chaotic.
The hotel is a bit of a hike from the Marina Bay area, but I actually like that better - you can walk to some of the best shopping/restaurants on Orchard Street from the hotel and you are a bit away from the tourist crowds.

Marina Bay Sands
I stayed at Marina Bay Sands this week. I was given the largest suite I have ever stayed in. I booked an Orchid suite, but was upgraded to a Sands suite. This room had floor to ceiling windows on both sides of the building, ie. looking out towards Singapore city and out towards the harbour. Both were quite interesting views in different ways. I was on floor 54, which I believe is the highest or second highest accommodation floor.
The suite was very nice, but had no balcony or any "outoor" space. But it had a lot of indoor space, with a bedroom/ living area, a huge bathroom, a walk in closet, dining room, and sitting room. The colour scheme was nice but a little bland, a good couple of notches below an oriental suite at a good Mandarin Oriental. The suite came with club access on the Skypark floor (floor 57). The club was open most of the day, with canapes and drinks served from 4:30pm to 6:00pm, which was a little early. At some stage in the evening, the club is actually open to all guests and becomes another evening venue of the hotel.
As a suite guest I was looked after by "VIP services". I know this because on the last day they rang and asked for feedback. In reality, the complex has 2500 rooms and 10,000 staff and I was not even aware that my stay was in some way covered by VIP services until today.
The pool area on Level 57 is quite spectacular, a really stunning area that has been landscaped well. The infinity pool looking out over the city is a sight in itself. The hotel was at 90% occupancy this week, and even the vast pool area was crowded, it was hard to get a seat. There were children everywhere too - this is no quiet, intimate area like at the Four Seasons Hong Kong. The general public are also able to access much of this area, and the area is over-run by people. To tell you the truth I did not find it very relaxing at all. The Skydeck observation platform has a great view, and also an attractive bar area.
As a general comment, you really felt you were staying in a city. There would almost be no reason to leave this hotel. Being a "city" this also meant that there were quite long distances to walk to places. Lines were not as bad as what I had been expecting, although I checked in and out at off-peak times.
Induction of staff appears to have been poor, as I received lots of wrong directions and staff who did not know basic, general things.
The casino and shopping centre are attached to the hotel, across the street from it. This area reminded me of a massive railway station, or huge suburban mall. The shopping centre was high end, and appeared quiet on the evening I was walking around. The casino stretched over four or five floors.
Lots of food and beverage areas, most of which I didn't get to try. Noticeably a Guy Savoy resturant, a resturant by Santi Santamaria, and a very nice looking eatery by Wolfgang Puck. So certainly some very high end dining options.
In room dining at this hotel is good. Housekeeping is quite awful, so bad in fact that some of the housekeeping staff I came across could barely speak english. I got talking to some of the staff, and many of them came from non-hospitality backgrounds prior to working at MBS.
Would I go back there? It was interesting, but probably not. I would probably find somewhere a little quieter. It is certainly a spectactuar venue in many ways, and is definitely Singapore's newest attraction. In some ways it is very convenient staying at the attraction. Certainly a good venue for business/ work functions and conferences to keep in mind for the future.

Back from Singapore
ok back from Singapore. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton, got 2 rooms as we were a family. Booked through the Travel Network and got their Ritz Stars perks which included welcome amenities (a bottle of wine in each room + local delicacies, bottle of evian and 2 bottles of perrier) and breakfast for 6 adults + 1 child and SGD$100 F&B credit per room, not bad considering its the published rates.
Got a Marine Bay View Room, view is great at a night, you get to see the city. Rooms is nice and just like the pictures posted earlier in this thread. Closet is cramped, and theyve used a lot of mirrors to make the room feel bigger, it works. Water closet might feel a little claustrophobic, wished theyd used a fogged glass door.
In room dining was great, lots of choices, but pricey so we only ordered once and used up our credits. Housekeeping was great, had a baby crib, much like the one at the Pen HK, they also gave us Pidgeon baby products and a bath tub to use when we gave the little one a bath.
Concierge was great and friendly. We ordered a cake in advance for my daughters birthday and they brought it to us at breakfast with balloons and a little gift, all nicely done. Was expecting to pay for it but they gave it complementary.
We didn't stay much at the hotel but overall it was a great experience. Checkout times are very busy so call ahead, we couldnt wait for the porter so we just brought our stuff down. There were a few missing items on the bill from our perks so I had to make sure they corrected it before doing the final charge.
Next time I want to try the well regarded Mandarin which is just next door

Hi all,

Don't want to stay in Sentosa, so I think my options are Fullerton, Fullerton Bay, Shangri-la ?

I can say there was a lot of angry customers there because they work so slowly compared to the SG service industry standard.
Highlights are definitely their "skypark" where the bars & pool area is on level 57. The shopping centre was nice, got some water features there. The casino is a sight to see especially looking down onto the main floor. Their VIP status "Paiza" will get you anything you need and quick too.
Definitely go back because of the service for its Paiza members.
You should have a look at the Mandarin Oriental, that was a nice stay too.

I can't help but feel that Marina Bay Sands is the same kind of place as W Barcelona. Wanting to be luxury, huge, edgy and so forth all at the same time (and kinda ending up in the middle).

The problem with the MBS is that it is a large Vegas hotel plopped in the middle of the Equator. Tries very hard, but it is, in the end, just another large Vegas hotel...

Looking for a Singapore Recommendation
Hi all,
I will be in Singapore for 3 days in December, for purely travel purposes. This is the first time I have ever been and I'm mostly interested in eating and sight-seeing--not really for shopping. I'm not sure if the Orchard hotels are going to be inconvenient for me.
I'd probably prefer to use one of the Fine Hotels thru Amex for the perks, but don't know if there is anything better than those listed.
I have seen that the St Regis doesnt have the most stellar reviews but Ive got to admit the starpoints are tempting...

I would agree with your idea of avoiding Orchard Road. You might want to consider the Fullerton, which is in a great location for tourist activities.

I second this -- stayed there recently and loved it -- particularly the reciprocal privileges with the Fullerton Bay Hotel which allows you into their great roof top cocktail lounge.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Fullerton in July and the location was fantastic for us. Very close to the money changers and the Raffles MRT stop and walking distance to Clarke Quay.
That said, we may try the MO or Fullerton Bay next time for something different.

i stayed 2 nights at the marina bay sands to finish off our honeymoon after bali. i would recommend trying it once as it really is an experience - for many of the reasons mentioned by QF Lad. we go upgraded too either because of my plat amex or honeymooners. honestly give it a try ONCE!
i wouldnt of stayed anywhere else for our first visit to singapore. however if i ever went back i would go for a more service orientated hotel like the fullerton bay...
