I have just stumbled across this thread while googling for info about connections in FRA. It is a fantastic resource with some super-detailed knowledge. I'd be grateful for some expert advice please...

I will arrive in FRA on the LH 455 from SFO (A380) and connect with the LH 908 to LHR approx 3.5 hours later (both in C). Could anyone comment on:
1. whether the A380 always comes to a gate with airbridge(s)
2. whether I will likely need to change A-B
3. whether i will need to enjoy some passport/security checks even if checkd through from SFO
4. Is the LH908 to LHR likely to be another bus extravagaza
5. which lounge(s) should I spend the available time at for most benefit?

Apologies for the long list of questions - any advice would be much appreciated.

LH983 DUB to FRA arrive 9:55. expect to arrive into the T1B bus gate.
LH720 FRA to PEK Depart 17:20. Expect to leave from T1C.

Do anyone give me any advice how to kill approx 7 hour in FRA.
I have never been in FRA and LH. So look forward to this trip and first time on the A380.

The A380 arrives at one of the C gates (C14-16) which allow deboarding on two levels.

2. whether I will likely need to change A-B
LHR flights depart from a B gate which is some distance away from C14-16 gates.

You don't have to go through immigration/passport control (but see below) but you will have to go through security.

4. Is the LH908 to LHR likely to be another bus extravagaza
LH has announced (for the second time!) that flights to LHR will depart from a gate position (usually B24 or B27). Let's see if they have kept their promise this time!

As an arriving C pax you have access to the Welcome (arrivals) Lounge which is much better than any other lounge in FRA with the exception of the First Class Lounges. However it is landside and you will have to go through passport control to get there. From your C arrival gate follow the signs for exit, go through passport control, down to baggage claim and exit. The Welcome Lounge is on the same level close to the baggage claim area B.

If you decide not to go to the Welcome Lounge (or can't because you need a visa to enter Schengen) your option will be one of the Business Lounges in concourse B (by gates B24-28 and B44-48). There are also Business Lounges near gates C14-16 but I'm not sure how easy or otherwise it is to find your way there after arrival.

If you have never been to FRA, 7 hours should give you a chance to go into the city to have a look around and enjoy a meal. There are several threads in the Germany forum about what to do during a long layover in FRA. You may want to check this thread, for instance (though Christmas Market obviously won't be there!)

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/germa...a-what-do.html

From the airport take the S-Bahn train (3.90 one way) from the regional train station on the lower level. Some more information may be found here.

http://www.vgf-ffm.de/en/presseinfo/...kfurt/airport/

From the bus gate in B, go up the escalator to immigration, then down all the way to the arrivals level. The train station should be well sign-posted. On return to the airport go to C check-ins/passport control which should slightly reduce the distance you have to walk to your departure gate.

Many thanks for this info NewbieRunner. Its really helpful.
Sounds like a trip landside to the arrivals lounge is worth the passage through passport control given the time I have to kill (UK passport so no visa issues!)
Being bussed to the plane really dampens morale! - so I hope LH do indeed keep their word about the gating arrangements for LHR flights!

Thanks again for this ^

I arrive on a UA flight at 9:00AM this weekend and have a 10 hour layover before departure on a SA flight. I'm traveling in Business Class and I'm Star Gold. Could someone help me with a few questions?

Will I have access to an arrivals lounge?
Is it easy and worth the effort to go into the city for the day?
Any suggestions as to what I should see and do on a 8 hour city visit?

Thank you for your help!

I believe UA has an arrangement for Business Class passengers arriving in FRA in the morning to use the Welcome (arrival) Lounge. Your BP from the UA flight should gain you access.

10 hours is far too long to spend in an airport. Check the Germany forum for what to do and where to go during a layover. Do a search for "FRA layover".

Once I came to FRA from MUC (was rerouted this way due to delays ADB-MUC and I needed to spend a night at NH Hotel Munich Airport, MUC-OSL flights was sold out the following day or they could for some reason not put us on that) We parked on the tarmac and we were bussed in to the A gates. Had to run like hell under that tunnel to get to gate B5. Had enough time to visit the bathroom before boarding started. MUC was very nice. At that time you did not need to go through any security for any connection in terminal 2. But I read they built a new level for that to shunt people through a sterile corridor to security or passport control...

Hi All. First ever post. I'm glad I found this thread as I have also been confused trying to figure out my connection in FRA.

End of June- In Business Class
LH423 BOS-FRA AR 6:15
LH232 FRA-FCO LV 10:45

I purposely chose the 4 hr layover vs. a 1 hr as my wife and I will have my 75 yr old Mother with us. I did not want to risk having to do a last minute dash with Mother in tow.

I have questions similar to others. Since we'll have 4 hrs, I want to take advantage of being able to use the lounges(s).

Questions-
-Which gate area will we arrive at and depart from. I understand we will be in Terminal 1.
-Will we have to go thru passport control and or security
- Which lounge should we use? Since we'll have time, I'd like to take a shower. Do you need to make a 'reservation' or are they first come first serve?

I've been doing some reading and it seems the FRA lounges can be extremely overcrowded. Also, the Welcome lounge may be the nicest but I question how far a walk it would be plus we would have to thru customs/passport control then back in thru security?
Appreciate the help.

Since you will arrive from out side the US, EU security immigration and customs (for your handluggage) will take place in FRA. Just follow the signs to the exit after immigration and you will end up in the main checkin hall in Terminal 1. Then go down one level and head to the welcome lounge to take you showers and have breakfast. about 45 min before departure, leave the lounge and go thru security to your gate (probably in T1 A)

Thank you. So you are saying because we are coming from the US, we have to go thru immigration even though we have a connection to a Schengen country? After immigration we will end up in the main check in hall? If that is the case it seems we may as well use the Welcome Lounge. Glad I didn't take the 1 hr connection. Wouldn't feel comfortable with only an hour to get thru immigration and then find the connecting gate.

If arriving from outside Schengen, you go through immigration when you first enter Schengen - in your case FRA. There will be no further passport control when you arrive in FCO, though you go through customs for your checked luggage there.

There are something like 20 showers in the Welcome Lounge and you hardly ever have to wait for one. You can also get a very nice breakfast there and many people especially those arriving on short TATL flights skip breakfast on the plane.

Welcome to FT, BMWMOT!

Thank you NewbieRunner.
It looks like I forgot to mention earlier that I am also *G if that helps me and my 2 companions gain access to some other better lounge. That said would you recommend the Welcome Lounge or another lounge closer to the gate that we need to go to for the FCO connection?

Apart from the First Class Lounges, the Welcome Lounge is by far the best LH lounge at FRA. *G does not give you access to the Welcome Lounge but your LH Business Class boarding pass (from your TATL flight) does.

The lounge nearest to your departure gate for FCO might be the Pier A Senator Lounge or Business Lounge. *G gives you access to the Senator Lounge but you can only invite one guest. As Business Class passengers you also have access to the Business Lounge. But the Welcome Lounge is much better than either of them.

If your mother requires assistance you may like to consider LH Care Service which is free of charge.
