Lounge F&B staff seem so miserable. Are they Unionised? They must be some of the lowest paid.

Negotiations continue tomorrow. Some details about what they are asking for were also published:

No mention of strikes so far. Summer vacations in FRA/Hessen start July 22... they are unlikely to strike after that.

Of course they are. They are being let down by management as they have to work overtime and deal with rightly displeased passengers fighting over the last seat in the SEN lounge having paid EUR 550 for their domestic short haul ticket in coach while having been loyal to LH throughout the pandemic only to have Carsten and friends abusing taxpayers‘ money on severance payments for employees that are much needed now - all while the management board got approved around EUR 80k to EUR 160 k increases of their fixed compensation in 2021. Talking about governance and culture…

Warning strike by ver.di unreasonable for customers and employees

Today, the trade union ver.di called on the about 20,000 ground employees of Deutsche Lufthansa AG to stage a warning strike from Wednesday, 27 July at 3.45 a.m. until Thursday morning, 28 July at 6.00 a.m.

Michael Niggemann, Member of the Executive Board Chief Officer Human Resources Deutsche Lufthansa AG, said:

"After only two days of negotiations, ver.di has announced a strike that can hardly be called a warning strike due to its breadth across all locations and its duration. This is all the more incomprehensible given that the employer side has offered high and socially balanced pay increases – despite the continuing tense economic situation for Lufthansa following the Covid crisis, high debt burdens and uncertain prospects for the global economy.

After the enormous efforts to stabilize our flight operations, this represents a renewed, substantial and unnecessary burden for our passengers and also for our employees beyond the strike day."

Among other things, the Group has presented a package with the following components. Beginning 1 July 2022, with a term of 18 months, each employee would receive:
  • an increase in basic pay of 150 euros per month as of 1 July 2022,
  • a further basic pay increase of 100 euros per month as of 1 January 2023,
  • an additional two-percent increase in compensation as of 1 July 2023, depending on how our business develops.
It is particularly important for Lufthansa to put a stronger focus on the lower remuneration groups. For example, for employees with a basic monthly salary of 3,000 euros before taxes, the present offer means an increase in basic salary between nine and just under eleven percent within the next 12 months.

The next round of negotiations has long been agreed upon and will take place on 3 and 4 August 2022.
Vedi wanted 350€ min and 12€/h min wage for all in line with the new min wage norms.

I have a flight on the 27th MUC-LHR. What are the chances of them pro-actively rebooking me on a flight of my choice if I contact them now, before the flight has been canceled and they rebook me on something I do not want? I would rather fly tomorrow and not on Thursday or later.

They will publish a plan this evening:

Strike call by the union Verdi for Lufthansa ground staff on 27 July

The union Verdi has called a one-day warning strike for Lufthansa ground staff throughout Germany. For this reason, we expect massive restrictions for the Lufthansa flight schedule on Wednesday, 27 July.

We will publish more information about cancellations and further flight schedule changes by Monday evening.

Please constantly check the status of your flight on lufthansa.com.

If you are affected by a cancellation of a Lufthansa flight, Lufthansa will rebook you on another flight free of charge and usually automatically and inform you via your mobile phone number or by e-mail. However, at the moment it takes longer to find an adequate rebooking solution during the peak travel season. If you do not receive a message from Lufthansa, please check the current status of your booking. Here you can also adjust the rebooking again if you wish.

Is it safe to assume that incoming non-LH / non-LH group flights should be OK on Wednesday?
