If sth. goes wrong on Turkish, you are screwed as passenger - much more than IRROPS by LH.
As service recovery is already bad with Lufthansa; service recovery is virtually non-existing for Turkish; hence, I would recommend to stay away from then - esp. when needing to backtrack (SFO-IST-MUC).
