Now the hike is implemented for longhaul eff 01SEP (tip of the hat to rcs85551). More details when they are published. Hikes will be 10 to 100 € depending on booking class.

Fully logical given the continuing decrease in fuel prices and the overall strength of the EURO ~11% higher than where most economists and (budgeting) finance teams projected at the moment.

Don't forget the increased traffic demand due to booming economy!

Excellent point. It is indeed a completely logical time to be rising fares and Fuel Surcharges and implementing Optional Payment Charges which are not optional.

One hand it seems completely illogical... OTOH they have seriously cut capacity to N. America in the W11/12 schedule. God knows what the crystal ball in HQ shows them.

Excellent point that I am not in the crystal ball and have no idea of the information HQ has: it just seems as if LH is seriously attempting to push customers to other places, and a fuel surcharge increase (significant) at a time when fuel prices are decreasing is very strange.

Well, less customers is less weight to pull and fuel burned in the process, so maybe that's the goal?
To be fair though, at least S/W fares were completely inflexible in the past, so even with the increase there's some added value. On the other hand, we didn't have E/L/K beneath and you could refund it with full YQ back in the day - every stop forward takes us two step backs .

Ooops! Thanks oliver- my error! I read the Q-Y fares part above and thought it was referring to YQ. OK, fare raise is fair enough.

Why does Canada get the higher fare bracket considering that all flights to/from USA must fly thru Canadian airspace first ?

Guy Betsy: You aren't attempting to apply logic to airline fares are you? Slippery slope there....

They certainly think they can. Franz mentioned at a public event yesterday that the LH group will not revise their forecast for 2011 inspite of fuel cost increases, economic uncertainty and north africa. bmi and Austrian remain worries however.
