Now the hike is implemented for longhaul eff 01SEP (tip of the hat to rcs85551). More details when they are published. Hikes will be 10 to 100 € depending on booking class.

USA: +10 € in Economy Class (all fare buckets), +40 € in Business Class, +80 € in First Class

One hand it seems completely illogical... OTOH they have seriously cut capacity to N. America in the W11/12 schedule. God knows what the crystal ball in HQ shows them.

Excellent point that I am not in the crystal ball and have no idea of the information HQ has: it just seems as if LH is seriously attempting to push customers to other places, and a fuel surcharge increase (significant) at a time when fuel prices are decreasing is very strange.

To be fair though, at least S/W fares were completely inflexible in the past, so even with the increase there's some added value. On the other hand, we didn't have E/L/K beneath and you could refund it with full YQ back in the day - every stop forward takes us two step backs

They certainly think they can. Franz mentioned at a public event yesterday that the LH group will not revise their forecast for 2011 inspite of fuel cost increases, economic uncertainty and north africa. bmi and Austrian remain worries however.
