Hi all,

Im new here, not sure where to post my question. I'm visiting Jordan and am flying back to the US next week. My flight will be Amman-Frankfurt-Miami with Lufthansa.

I don't pass immigration in Frankfurt,but I believe I do pass security. Am I allowed to pass through security with perfume bottles that I picked up in Jordan's duty free. They are Arabic perfumes, not something i would find easily in Europe or the US. what are the restrictions on this at Frankfurt airport, if any?

Normally you need to make sure, that they pack the perfume in the ICAO tamper-evident sealed bags and that the receipt is visibly placed in the pouch and that it is readable.

But this rule seems only to be valid for goods bought in EU-Airports or on board EU registered aircrafts...

So to be safe, your purchase must meet the carry on regulations:

* Containers with liquids and similar products may contain up to 100 millilitres (the printed maximum quantity applies)
* All containers must be carried in a transparent resealable plastic bag (e.g. a so-called "zip-lock") with a maximum capacity of one litre
* One bag per person
* The bag must be presented separately at the security check

Only then you will be fine.

And still you will find that shops at airports in other countries claim you can bring their goods through security in the EU...

If the bag looks all right and the receipt is visible, security may not even bother to read the receipt, and thus never find out where the bag originated.

Just make sure the parfume bottles are less than 100ml in each bottle and you will be fine.

The bottles are 100ml or less (stated on the box). Problem I've noticed is security in the Middle East is pretty lax, they don't follow the EU or US regulations, liquids can go through security easily for example, no questions asked, so taking off shoes, belts etc etc.

I also noticed coming in that the bags they use are regular plastic bags (yellow), nothing fancy, not transparent or resealable.
Would it suffice for me to just buy the items at duty free, place them in my own zip-lock bag with the receipts, and present them separately at Frankfurt security? and am I worrying needlessly considering they are all under 100ml...


sorry ... just want to be sure they won't be taken away, as they are quite costly ($200 a bottle) and still best price ive found was at the duty free

You'll be fine. In the US the limit per bottle is the equivalent of 90ml, by the way.

If they are 100ml bottles you will be ok! You should probably put them in a clear plastic bag....


They do have this 3-1-1 rule BUT in fact 3.4 ounces (which is 100ml) are allowed and I had no problems with carrying 100ml bottles in the US
