LH A380 Flying To JFK

According to Lufthansa's twitter this morning, the A380 will be servicing the JFK-FRA segment starting 2/15/11 on Mondays and Fridays only. Not sure if the A380 will operate the LH 401 or 405 flight, most probably the 405 since it's operated by the 744 right now? Should start looking for some award tickets in F before they change the entire system! :P

Just looked at other seasons and I guess 401 doesn't fly a 744 year round, but it looks like 405 does .

I can confirm the A380 to JFK, no details on the 400 vs 404 yet, but IMHO it will be 400 as its much easier to capture for the press

I agree that would make sense. But since it's a scheduled aircraft change and not just a special event flight it's difficult to tell if they want to swap out the 744 or to ramp up capacity significantly from the 333.

I'm sure they will come up with a campaign fare/promo to fill the seats. The PMI and 'Alpenrundflug' rotations showed that people are willing to cough up quite a bit of money to fly an LH A380. Combine it with a spring shopping package in NYC, and it should be easy to convince some 200 extra pax to fly on LH 400.

Having just checked a few months all the way through to next year it looks like F award space is already blocked on these flights via ANA -only the LH484/5 thro EWR seems to consistently have award space available.

(was thinking to chance a few redemptions to see if it worked out!) - could be wrong but checked random weekends from April till November 2011, always C available though.

A shame but perhaps soon when BD merges with M&M I'll be able to waitlist on one of these A380 flights

Hmm: Interesting, there is space in Feb on the LH405 on some days though - anyone care to guess the rotations and dates... they say Fri/Mon, so is that likely to be a Friday out of FRA and return on Monday from JFK or a flight leaving FRA & JFK each Monday and Friday (pure speculation I know)?

Do you meant there is no room to parked for A380? I knows other gates does not have enough to installed more double dual jetbridge at entire T1.

For 15FEB LH 400 is OL IL X9, LH 405 is O4 I9 X9, so if you want to gamble, its time to grab some award seats via bmi DC/ US DM

Very interesting. Without having any inside knowledge or being a Lufthansa expert, I have to assume it would make more sense to make LH404 the A380. The A330 has 221 seats, the B747 has 330 seats, and the A380 has 526 seats. I have a hard time imagining that they want to ramp up capacity by over 300 seats. Even with some aggressive campaigns, that's a lot of seats to fill!

I can't imagine they'll leave the plane sitting in New York for over two days, so I assume it's a roundtrip on Monday and Friday.

PS: Anyone understand why they say "starting February 15?" Isn't February 15 a Tuesday? So much for Monday and Friday service...
