Need help! Manhattan Beach to Downtown LA.
I am staying in Manhattan Beach at the Holiday Inn Express. I need to get from there to the LA coliseum for a football game. I have been told to take the rail system as it is the cheapest. Can someone give me detailed directions as to how I would do that. The game is on Saturday. I have 4 other people with me. I also have a free shuttle from LAX to the motel. Thanks for the help!!

Here's the Metrorail page. You would likely pick it up at the Douglas or El Segundo stations. Looks like Green Line to Blue Line. Not sure which stop to exit for the Coliseum.

JordanSker, welcome to FlyerTalk!
I sort-of suspected that age was the reason you weren't going to drive.
I think that the absolutely cheapest ride to the game for your situation is the following:
Ask the hotel shuttle take you to the LAX Transit Center. If the hotel shuttle only wants to take you to the airport, no problem - take the hotel shuttle to the airport, then the free airport-provided bus to the LAX Transit Canter (you can also "bribe" the hotel shuttle driver with a tip)
.
Then, take MetroBus 42 from the LAX Transit Center all the way to the Coliseum. Piece of cake!
Here's an example schedule, using the MTA links provided bu other FTers above:
http://socaltransport.org/tm_pub_sta...ateButton.y=10
Select the first option to see the least expensive alternative.
One thing: The Coliseum (and USC itself) is located in an area that is (ahem) somewhat dicey. If you are going to a night game, exercixe all due caution, and check the MTA schedules very very carefully on the MTA website, because many bus lines are set up for people going to and from work (so they stop running fairly early in the evening).

If you end up taking the hotel shuttle back to LAX, then go to the lower level and lookk for the signs described on this page (remember you want the "C" shuttle if you're takeing Route 42):
http://www.lawa.org/lax/publicTrans.cfm
Here's a link to the Route 42 timetable and map (at the bottom). The airport bus center and the Colisem are marked:

Remember to re-check the online schedule page closer to your trip, as schedules change frequently.

Hi JordanSker--
I agree totally with the advice given by Non-non rev.
One caveat: Allow plenty of time for taking the C shuttle between the airport and the LAX transit center. Although the shuttle is supposed to run on a schedule, it can get really whacked out by congestion at the airport. I have had a few REALLY close calls using the shuttle for flights (at least the Coliseum won't take off without you!). On your way to the Coliseum, I would allow a whole hour to get from the airport to the 42 bus using the shuttle--this may be WAY overdoing it, but it could take that long.
There is no charge for the shuttle itself. You need exact fare for the bus.

USC isn't THAT dicey....
And if you're worried about dicey-ness, you shouldn't be taking the #42 bus...
If it's a day game, I personally would
--Take the Green Line.
--Transfer to Blue Line towards Downtown.
--Get off at the Pico stop (you'll be on Flower)
--Walk 1 block west to Figueroa (towards the convention center), and cross it.
--Take the F DASH bus south (away from Downtown).
--Get off at Exposition (next to the USC campus, after the bus makes a right on Expo).
