Back to the OP. Getty is great, but if s/he is landing at 2pm, by the time get to Getty not much time to look around before they close. But certainly doable - think they stay open until 6pm (maybe later on Fri).
But if it's this Fri (day after turkey day), I can speak from painful experience the Getty is a ZOO. Took my sister there a couple years ago on the Fri. 20 minutes up to Getty - almost 1 hour from the Getty exit to get into parking. Everyone has the same idea on the holiday :( Howard Hughes is an option w/ the shops, movie theatres. I'm not as enamoured of it as some of the other posters are here. If you've got a rental car (get one cheap), that opens up a lot of activities for you, from the beach cities to Bev Hills to Hollywood. If you don't, there are shuttles that run to Manhattan Beach - both the shopping center/mall as well as downtown Manhattan Beach w/ the pier, restaurants, bars, shops. And certainly enough to keep you amused. Cheers. Sharon |
Rent a Car
Alamo has a one day rate for a $18.35 for an Economy Car INCLUDING tax on this day.
That without using any discount codes.. if you have a disc code you may even find it cheaper.. this by far would be the best way to go and it would beat a cab fare just about anywhere you tried to go |

Hollywood
A few months ago, I took my friend to Hollywood. She had about 9 hours and it was Friday. So the traffic was really bad. Anyway, I took her to Kodak Theather and we did a bit of shopping there. Then I drove her back to LAX before 7 pm.

Layover at LAX
Hi folks of LA, I have a six hour stop over at LAX, have I enough time to go into town for a look around? - or any other place - as six hours in a United lounge won't be good.

Yes, get a car & drive up to Marina del Rey, Venice & Santa Monica - have fun!

LAX Layover Ideas???
Hello,
Two ladies and a teenage girl are traveling into LAX and have an 8-10 hour layover. Is a city tour a good idea? If so, any good tour companies? Someone suggested Manhatten beach. Any input on Manhatten beach? Any helpor ideas are appreciated. Thanks, DEB |
Can you say RODEO DRIVE SHOPPING?
I don't have suggestions on how to get there short of renting a car .. perhaps others can help. |
Hi Deb - I've been through Manhattan Beach once, great little town area and, of course, the beach. I could've easily spent a few hours wandering through the shops around there. Close to LAX, too. If I had a lengthy daytime layover, I'd definitely head that way (after a jaunt to the INO on Sepulveda for some spotting, of course :) ).
BTW, where in Southern Indiana are you? And welcome to FT! :) |
Call Shopper Shuttle and have them take you to RODEO or THE PROMENADE for only $9 each. http://ShopperShuttle.com is their website. I saw them recently and showed them this site. It's a perfect solution to many of us here, I think.

For 8-10 hours, I'd recommend renting a car just for the extra flexibility it gives you. You could even take a quick ride over to the beach in Santa Monica after going shopping. |
What time do you arrive @ LAX? Would you consider renting a car or just interested in taxis? Would you prefer info on beaches, restaurants, shopping, general sightseeing, etc?
Helps give an idea of what you might want to do with your time :) |
LAX Layover Plan
Using FT posts from this forum I have come up with the following plan for my son age 12 and myself. We will be flying ANZ from CNS-AKL-LAX arriving August 9, 2005 on a Tuesday at 2:40 PM with departure via United at 10:20 PM. So we have seven hours and forty minutes. We will not be interested in renting a car. Hoping that baggage will go through to BOS.
The Plan: 1. Lunch at In-n-Out Burger 2. Take the express Big Blue Bus to Santa Monica. Walk around and visit the Pier, stroll along the beach and the shops. Take in a movie if timing is right. 3. Encounter restaurant if we have time to spare for something to drink. If we are wiped out will call Travelodge for day stay. That is sort of our back up plan, which I hope we don’t have to do. Suggestions and comments are appreciated to make better use of our time are appreciated. Thanks to the prior posters. |
