Taxi/Uber/Lyft/Opoli/TNCs pickups move from Upper Level to LAX-it (east of Terminal 1, follow Lime Green Signs or take green LAX-it shuttles on Lower Level Inner Curb)

Taxi(only) in addition to LAX-it, taxis can also be picked up inside parking structure 3 (between TBIT & Terminal 3, lower level) and at the far end of Terminal 7 (outside baggage claim); if there are no taxis in the rank, there is a sign with a number to call to request one

Hotel/Private Parking Shuttles move from Lower Level to Upper Level (Red Signs)

FlyAway (Light Blue Signs) and all LAWA buses (A - Airline Connector, C - LAX City Bus Center, E - Lot E, M - Green Line, X - Employee parking) move from Lower Level Outer Island to Lower Level Inner Curb (Pink/Magenta Signs)

Shared Ride Vans (e.g. Super Shuttle), Charter Buses, and Scheduled Buses/Shuttles (Antelope Valley, Central Coast, Mickey's Space Ship, Santa Barbara Airbus, Shuttle One, Shuttle 2000, Ventura County Airporter) move and consolidate to Lower Level Outer Island Curbs (Orange Signs)

Rental Car Shuttles move to different locations on the Lower Level Outer Island Curbs (Purple Signs)

TCP (Limos/Uber Black/Lyft Lux Black) and Personal Vehicles (e.g. a friend you coerced into picking you up) move from Lower Level Inner Curb to the Lower Level Outer Island Curb (White Zones/Painted Curbs)

Only points I'd make is that the Green Line bus can be packed especially at rush hour and that you may need to stand.

Another minor caution - the Green Line station has two separate parking areas and we once had a Lyft driver looking for us in the "other" area.

Also, the suggestion to be picked up on Sepulveda near LAX is not practical as there is no stopping on this busy road except at the bus stop, which has its own pull-over lane. I'm not sure a pickup or drop off at the bus stop is technically legal and the area around LAX crawls with cops.

The best alternative to LAXit is to be dropped or picked up at the Hyatt Regency Los Angeles or at the corner of Vicksburg Avenue and West Century Blvd.

it is always a very significant difference IME - for my 40 mi trip home usually $60-70 from hyatt or hertz vs $120-150 from LAXit.. been this way since LAXit started iirc and probably prior although i mostly rented one way back then as corporate rate was better and hle more reliable.. dont have lyft installed so not sure on that

Can Uber/Lyft pick-up at the bus center? Or do I have to walk to the road attached to the bus station?

Its been years since Ive been through the city bus center but Im pretty sure cars are not allowed in there. You would have to walk to the street curb, which is not much farther than the walk to another bus. You could also take a bus in whatever direction you want and Uber from closer to your destination.

If you are heading south, the 232 bus which stops on sepulveda at century runs every 30 minutes or so. The Transit app has accurate real time departure information. For directions other than south use the city bus center or the green line.

I predict that walking to and from sepulveda or the Hyatt will become very popular after the people mover is open and car entry is restricted. If you are flying out of terminal 1 or 7 walking is already the fastest way in and out of the airport.

I was just at the bus center yesterday. Cars are not allowed in the bus area. The only Lyft pickup we ever did was at the adjacent parking lot.
Also, if you are heading south to the beaches, the Beach Cities Transit #109 can be caught at the LAX bus center and is free to ride.
UPDATE: Beach Cities busses will begin collecting fares October 1, 2022.

The LAX City Bus Center was relocated shortly before the onset of the pandemic. It is now located immediately west of the new economy parking structure, just off Jetway Boulevard (formerly Jenny) between 94th and 96th streets; it is somewhat to the west and north of where it was originally located.

Bottom line: get off of LAX to get a cheaper ride.

For 2 years until recently all the city buses were free. They resumed collecting fares this spring.

Except Beach Cities Transit. "Until further notice, fare collection is not being enforced. The City of Redondo Beach will subsidize the BCT fares and monthly pass using COVID-19 Relief Federal Funding."

Can verify that it's still free, as of July 14.

UPDATE: Beach Cities busses will begin collecting fares starting October 1, 2022.

Do you suppose the author of this video found the LAX Hyatt trick in this thread?

i thought this was a common knowledge - "no uber" signs on various hotel and parking shuttles have been on for years, i assume due to ppl riding away from airport proper to get cheaper rides

I have not seen those signs but I will start looking for them. I wonder when the airport surcharge increased from the $4 I observed in 2019 to the price multiples reported more recently. Also, does Lyft boost the airport price by more than the airport taxes? Or it only Uber?

Both/all. Do a test with the apps next time you're @ LAX and then do the perp walk over to the HR or take the green line bus to Aviation Station to see the price differences.

Last week, it took me 3 tries and about 20 minutes to finally get connected to an Uber driver. I would have gone with Lyft but I had $15 Amex credit I wanted to use with Uber so I put up with the nonsense for 20 minutes. Started with UberX then Uber Comfort and both time it just said waiting for driver for about 10 minutes. The crowd at the Uber pickup area grew to maybe 150 people deep and everyone was looking at their phone waiting for a match.

Decided to try Uber Green which I never used before and got matched right away. When he arrived (only took about 2 mins after we matched), I asked the drive why Uber doesn't have enough driver at LAX and he said that is not true... he said the Uber lot where he just came from probably has 300 cars waiting but the rate Uber is offering is just too low so drivers are not accepting rides. My driver said he basically just accept all the rides that Uber tries to match him but he said some (most?) Uber drivers at LAX would rather wait until Uber increase the rate. I guess they must know if they just band together and not accept rides, Uber will eventually bump the rate up? Would be fascinating to know if this is a coordinated effort or they just figured it out.
