Hotel room for less than $100/night in LA?

This will be from 7 December to 14 December. Is it possible to get a room in LA for less than $100/night?

"LA" is just too big a geographical area to start with. Yes, there are certain parts of LA where it's possible. You also may get to stay in a room where either COPS and/or porn has been filmed.

What will you be doing during that period and will you have a car?

No car. I'm just going to do sightseeing and I would prefer to stay near public transportation even though I know LA is a car city.

Ok, that's a start. You need a place somewhere in the greater Los Angeles area (consisting of 4,800 square miles and 13M residents) that is convenient to public transportation that is less that $100 per night. However, without knowing what your intended destinations in Los Angeles will be, it will still be difficult to give you any meaningful advice.

Dorm space in the Santa Monica Hostel is about $42/night

There are motels on Colorado in Pasadena in the $80-110/night range. They'll all cost much more than that a few days before and after the Rose Bowl. The area's not sketchy and is within walking distance of the gold line.
