Reservations Update

In a conversation with Amelia today, she claimed that LP no longer has direct access to the US Air reservation system for purposes of booking travel awards on US Air. I have no idea whether this is something which has happened because of an influx of award requests, or whether this is just another self-imposed roadblock to make redemption of award miles more difficult. Anyone else told the same thing by LP?

Yes, I had the same report today. I have been patiently trying to get tickets from GRR to FRA in October for almost 2 weeks, and was to have talked to Cloris today to help find available flights on US Airways. However, I was told that they can no longer can book US Airways flights directly. I question what caused the change.

Well that is interesting, because I also spoke to LP today about US reservations and I was told that they don't have exactly the same access to inventory that US Dividend miles does but that if I had a "hold" with US on some award seats I could forward that to LP for them to look at(I did not give US my Dividend miles number). I did verify with US before I sent my request to LP, that there were at least 7 seats available for awards on the flights we wanted.

vindesante ... who told you that you could
hold the reservation with US then call LP?
Was it someone out "front" Amelia, Karen etc
Or Cloris in reservations?

This comes up every so often and I assume it's just another example of getting a different answer each time from LP.

The last time I asked US Airways if they had seats a couple of days later (existing LP tickets), LP called and said that I had to make the change thru them. I didn't ask for a change, I just tried to see if anything was open so I could try LP.

The new "removal" of direct USAirways access is another new twist.

They finally booked a TWA reservation that I requested in late Dec. BUT it was open jaw and they missed the return. I talked to Cloris about it last wed. She said she would check and correct if possible. So today I wasn't surprised to get answers like "what reservation" "no new status" etc. When I pressed it a bit more , the response became call back tomorrow. I'm not a patient person but I try try try with these guys. I think it's just luck when something works , i.e. you just accidently call at the right time and get the right person and your lottery number comes up.

It is too bad they do not conduct business through email. It would be more efficient for them and proof for both sides as to what was said, promised, etc.

I would like to see us fax in (a form on WEB site would be better) our requests with our email address on it. Then they send a quick email of receipt within 24 hours. Then after sufficient time for them to get reservations (7 busn. days), handle questions, changes, etc. though email. But I guess that is asking too much.

I have numerous pending requests after three weeks still no answer they say. I think I will just get the tickets then call USAIR directly and change the dates. The tickets come hand written and say good for 1 year. I did this last time and it worked.

Has anyone been able to change cities with USAirways directly, or just dates?
