We should create a thread to share upgrade stories to better understand the odds (I know there is a big random factor).

good idea!, i can share one or two upgrades stories if someone wants to creat a thread.

the route was SCL- GRU last year, before credit cards were included in the upgrade system.

That was an unusual occasion. usually only have one or two Signatures on the waitlists.
Wow. Did you finally get the upgrade? How fast were the other black signatures to check in? You did it right 48 hours before the flight?

Yes, definitely will create the upgrade thread. I have 7 upgrades coming in December so will be interesting to see how it turns down.

Do you know when is the latest someone can apply for an upgrade with courtesy segments?

that time i didnt, that time i had to change of flight to the 787 24 hours before the flight.
when i do my upgrade i try do it at the exact 48 hours the fast as possible
i know the list can change up to 45 minute before the flight, so i guess it would be before the boarding

That is why I don't understand why they don't take into account the fare class paid but instead, the speed at which someone can request the upgrade

But even though the system upgrade, the real joke is the amount of black and black signatures that are out there.

The more people can reach it, the less exclusive it is.

in some routes there are more Blacks than Golds and platinum. Thats ridiculous

Do you think segments will solve the issue? I'm concerned about how easy Platinum will be to get. B and BS will be easier with the new points/$ but in some countries B and BS required points increased to the same Standard in Chile (100k and 200k respectively).

i think one the Cons (or maybe the big one) is now you can share all your courtesy segments with your travel companions in one segment of the travel like MIA-GRU, (black 8 segments shared and BS 14), that is the reason that nowadays you can see more BS and Black on the upgrade waitlist.

It has been always like that. I think family heavy flights like MIA this is very common. The Black/BS travels always J for work and uses the coupons for the family or couple.

Now I have to fly to GRU from the US on Dec 4th afternoon. I don't know either flying from JFK (7 seats left on 789) or MIA (17 seats left on 777). I am black + credit card.

is true that the required points in Peru, Colombia and Brazil now are the same that Chile, but the big difference is the amount of points you receive flying domestic in each country.
if you contrast Colombia and Chile travel in domestic PE will get you 30 points in Colombia and 15 points in Chile.
in Colombia with 6700 usd dollars excluding taxes now you can get BS in Chile you had to spend the double. in Peru is 22.5 for PE and in Brazil is 4.5 points per Real and if you multiply per dollar (5.6 real per dollar) is 25 points per dollar app.

not always, until september 2022 you had unlimited coupons and 6 for share with your companions travel, and that time depending of the route where differents the amount of coupons (i remember LIM-MAD was 2 coupons per person and SCL-MAD 4 coupons per person), i remember because i used 4 coupons to upgrade 2 people from the reoute MAD-LIM

the difference now Black and BS use for the entire family or friends, in that time you can upgrade at least 2 or 3 depending of the route in one year, now if you travel with your whole family you can upgrade all of them
