1 segment upgrade?
Someone knows if it is possible to upgrade just 1 of 2 segments? i'm flying from SCL to LAX, with a stop in LIM, but from SCL to LIM Business is almost full, but LIM-LAX is half empty. Any chance to upgrade just LIM-LAX segment?

How are you coming to that conclusion about half empty? Hopefully not through seat maps. LAN doesn't allow people on many fares to select seats more than 48 hours in advance, and/or has intermittent problems with seat selection online.

About the Segments you will need to ask for an upgrade just like in a full fly since your fly has a stop and not a conection. For what i read now you can't get of on Lima for the SCL - LAX, so i dont really have idea on how they can give you an upgrade, but this is what i know

1 segment upgrade?
I've done the split upg on the LA600 SCL-LIM-LAX before.
I didn't have enough coupons then to do the whole trip in J, so I called the call center in advance to have them do the UPG request just for the SCL-LIM.

If you cant get confirmed on the first segment, you can always get confirmed on the second. It happens often in the FRA-MAD-SCL.. the FRA-MAD is full and they give you the UPG in MAD.
What is way more difficult is to get an UPG on the first segment when the second segment is full.. some stations did split the ticket (FRA was really nice about it), but again.. it was the exception, not the rule

There's also the Black and Comodoro issue as well. There seems to be a lot of them on those routes and they get priority on the seats up front in the upgrade system. One of the things the LAN computers actually seem to track is how many of them are still not checked in and/or haven't asked for upgrade since they've got an unlimited number of upgrades for themselves. Also every time I've been on either of the LIM-LAX flights J has been full even when the system showed seats available up front earlier in the day. Also remember that all you'll have is a request (unless you're using kms) until you get to the airport and maybe the gate.
Good luck!

LAN's upgrade system is based on 2 things. The first and most import is your status...and i will say that is about 90% based on status. The other 10% is the time when you ask for it. Let me explain to you.
When you ask for an upgrade you will see a list of all People asking for it. As soon as you ask for it, higher you get to that list but in your category. So lets say we have 2 seats on J, you have a premium Silver and ask for it 48 hours before the fly and all the other People asking for the upgrade are on Silver or Just Premium.... And even if you check in the airport that you are still on first place... Well a Comodoro could just wall to the check in 2 hours before the fly, the same People on the counter will ask if he wants the upgrade and all ready he gets the first priority, and if he is with someone on the same booking well that person gets the 2nd seat.
Is bad if you are not Black or Comodoros, but when you are one, is son sweet hehehhe

As noted above from PABLOCO, there's still one more thing involved in LIM, you never know just what kind of games the Ground Staff is going to pull. Over on the Delta forum it's called a "Shena Sighting" for the shenanigans pulled by the Gate Agents involving the upgrades at the gate.

LOL
True enough. At LIM, I have reported 2 older ladies getting last minute upgrades at checkin counter ahead of me (Comodoro) as Lan employees on honeymoon. Yeah, like 2 ladies in their late 50s-60s got married in Per not. (They were speaking Pervian spanish, pues).
