MGM or Aladdin

Hello All,

I am planning a trip to LV in Nov and I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on staying either in Aladdin or MGM? I am looking for hotels around the 100/night range so if there are others that I missed, please let me know. I appreciate any help. Thanks...

Welcome to FlyerTalk. There are LOTS of other options but given your price range your dates will mean everything.

Hands down MGM over Aladdin. Price depends on weekday (Su-Th) v. weekend and if there is a convention. $100 will buy most Strip rooms on a weekday, e.g. Venetian on Priceline. Thanksgiving weekend (28-29) is slow and should be cheap.

Thanksgiving weekend won't be cheap this year. Paul McCartney is doing a two night concert at the MGM on Friday and Saturday. (25th & 26th)

While I am a fan of the Aladdin and that is where I usually stay when in Vegas.....if I did not care about earning points (Aladdin is a part of SPG) and price was the same I would choose MGM. MGM is a great hotel and never really had a bad room there. Aladdin is not a bad hotel but MGM just has a better product.

Now, as others mentioned the dates of your trip can make a big difference as to rates and it can be hotel specific because one hotel may have a huge function that fills it up where as other hotels are relatively slow. There should be A LOT of hotels in the $100 range in a "normal" Sunday-Thursday time frame.

Okay, I'll go against the grain on this one.

If price were identical, I'd choose the Aladdin. Part of that is my loyalty to Starwood, but having stayed in both hotels, I like the spaciousness of the Aladdin rooms (which seemed larger -- especially the bathrooms). I also like the location of the Aladdin better, which is a little closer to the places I frequent (which are in the Caesar's/Bellagio area).

That said, if I saw a significant difference in price, I'd let that be the driver.

Without a doubt, the MGM. Here's why....

Four or five years ago, when Las Vegas was still a family destination, my family and my sister's family stayed in Vegas for 3 days before spending a week on Lake Mead on a houseboat. Each family reserved a standard double at the MGM. When we got there, we asked if we could have adjacent rooms. The desk clerk smiled and asked if we'd like a suite instead for the same cost of two doubles. He handed us a key and sent us one our way.

Well, the suite was on the 25th floor, approximately 1,500 sq feet, with two bedrooms, two bathes (one with a jacuzzi) and a huge living room that looked down on the roller coaster in front of New York New York hotel/casino. We had a great time and have stayed there twice since. How can you beat that kind of customer service?

The MGM has saved our bacon more than once when other hotels either didn't have our bed type or completely walked us. Both times on Saturday night and both times comp.

MGM has been completely renovated over the last two years, so give it another look if you remember the cheesy place. It now has the best restaurants, lounges, and high-limit room in town.

MGM Hands Down. I second that !

Between the Aladdin and MGM.
MGM way on top. They just got finished with a major makeover.
It looks great. New restaurants. Moved some things around in the casino.
Also the large dome in the center is all redone with a new bar.
Had the chance to stay in the Skylofts up on the 29th floor this March.
One of the best rooms in Vegas. MGM staff are way ahead as well.

Been disapointed at the Aladdin a couple times on the service
and staff. Have not gone back since. Ever since it opened it
has had issues.

The following is for lurkers or anyone else that would like to factor in live poker into a decision between MGM & Alladin. Poker is getting more popular so this might be helpful to someone.

From what I understand, the MGM is now the best place to play low limit poker. If one planned on playing, he should be able to get a reduced room rate too.

For those that play middle limits or higher (like $15-30 or higher), the place to go is still the Bellagio. These limits aren't even offered at the MGM. In this case, one would want to stay at the Alladin b/c it's much closer to the Bellagio. Wynn also has come onto the poker scene. I hear it has a good $40-80 game. Both it and the Bellagio also offer lower limit games, but my understanding is that the MGM has more tables for the low limit games and has a better comp system. If one wanted to play at the Wynn or Mirage, the Alladin would also be closer to those properties.

Aladdin....it begins with poor design and runs downhill from there. I've tried it twice because of SPG and will not return.
