Consolidated "Cirque du Soleil" thread

I have seats to O section 201 Orchestra I believe. I ordered them over a month ago for a trip this week. Now there are seats available in the first few rows in sections 103, etc. Which seats are better? I imagine the ones in section 103 are low and 201 might have a better perspective, but I don't know. Also the ones down below say they are "wet" seats and I don't know how wet you get and all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have sat in the "wet" seats twice but the chances of getting wet are very small and if you do, it won't be a big deal. However, if this is your first time at the show it wouldn't hurt to sit a few rows back.

I would definitely recommend the higher level seats for any Cirque du Soleil show.... there is so much going on that you miss some if you sit close.

Besides, arent your tickets non-refundable and non-exchangeable? Or is there some secret to know?

Cirque du Soleil and Hotel for December

This December, I'm taking my mother to Las Vegas for her 92nd birthday. Although I've been there a hundred times, my mother was there with my Dad just once. My dad was very tight with a buck so my Mom probably had no fun at all. Since this may be my mom's only other trip to Vegas (ever,) I want to show her the time of her life!

My mom has seen Cirque du Soleil on TV and loves them. So I definitely want to get tickets to either Mystere or "O." But I'm amazed to see the better seats for "O" are in the $300.00 range. Is "O" really that much better than Mystere, justifying such high ticket prices? Can tickets for "O' be purchased any cheaper by staying at the Bellagio?

Also, I want to stay at one of the newer hotels such as Bellagio, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, etc. What is the best place to book a room online as far as low rates? We're planning on going during Sunday-Wednesday when rooms tends to be cheaper. We're also going in early December which I know is perhaps their very slowest time of year with many deals usually available. I used to get offers from Hilton and a few other hotel/casinos for cheap or even free rooms during this slow period. How can I get on the list for other hotels that may have deals at that time? Would going out there earlier, on my own, and joining some of their players clubs be a way of doing this? Although I gamble, I'm not a high roller and cannot count on any significant comps.

I would very much appreciate any advice on hotel deals at the upscale properties as well as on Cirque du Soleil. I'm also willing to seeing other shows and am open to suggestions. Thanks!!

Neal

As to the shows, I can highly recommend Mystere. I haven't seen "O", but it has a specialized theme focused around water. I actually think Mystere may be a better way to get the full Cirque de Soleil experience. The price for Mystere was about $85 a couple of years ago. (If you decide to go with "O", I don't think you need to pay anywhere near $300 for a good seat.) Some of the LV shows are dark in the first half of December, so be sure to check before you set your travel dates.

As to the hotels, I think you'll get the best prices direct from the web sites. I found that the travel agencies and consolidators usually have higher prices that what you can get direct. Sometime this fall, the hotel/casino web sites will begin to post special rates for December dates (pre-Christmas). One idea for your Mom is to get her a mini-suite at one of the nicer hotels. They are sometimes surprisingly cheap at slow times of the year.

You can sign-up for the player's card online, but without any play that's not going to get you a better deal on a room rate. You can also sign-up online to be sent email promotions and you might snag a special discount code.

Have fun!

Thumbs up Vegas early December

If you don't mind flying Southwest airlines, check out www.swavacations.com. I checked for FLL -> LAS for early december staying at the Bellagio. December 11th = 14th Flight (2 tickets) and Lake View Room = $1318.20 The same trip staying at the MGM Grand, is $948.20 These prices are for 2 people (not per person). I have found scenarios, where it was cheaper to use swavacations with a cheap hotel, and not even use it. ie. cheap hotel and flight cheaper than flight alone. The flight to LAS is direct, unfortunately, they don't have a direct flight back (wonder why?).

As for O tickets, a year ago, we had a friend who stays alot at the Bellagio call and got us good seats for about $100 dollars each on short notice. If possible don't sit to close. There is so much going on, it's hard to take it all in if you are too close. The show is fantastic.

For a completly different type of show, Tom Jones at the MGM is fun. He's at the MGM Oct 7 - 20, But plays there alot. No schedule for December yet.

Make it a great trip.

Thanks to both Sirecca and Jensfan for some great tips. As for flying Southwest, I do so on short hauls to TPA and MSY out of FLL regularly. But since MIA-LAS is a long flight, we're using First Class award tickets on AA. When my father died, my brothers and I agreed that from now on, our mother ONLY flies First Class! Seriously though, due to her age, I don't want her to have to change planes, even in just one direction.

As for Cirque du Soleil, I think we'll probably see Mystere. The tickets are more reasonable for one thing. I saw it years ago and got "casino seats" that were released just before show time. But assuming I'm not as lucky this time, where is it best to sit? Thanks again.

My wife and I have seen Mystere and O. We saw Mystere again in July. Both are good, but Mystere IMHO is a better deal for the $ and stage is smaller, so better overall experience.

Neal --

As Triple7 indicated, it's a fairly intimate theater and I doubt if there's a bad seat in the house. We were advised to choose seats toward the center, even if it meant sitting a little higher. By the way, I forgot to suggest Treasure Island itself as a lodging choice. It's not one of the 5-stars you listed, but it's the best priced 4-star I've seen. In your case, it would have the advantage of being where the Mystere theater is located. I noticed when I checked some dates for my own trip this Fall that they had already posted some December specials. As low as $69 mid-week as I recall.

TI would also probably involve the least amount of walking from elevators to casino, show, restaurants ect. if that is a concern. Elevators come right into the casino and are centrally located.

Agree with most of the above. I have seen all 3 Cirque shows and Mystere is overall the best (IMO) and less $$. Do watch for those dark dates.

You're correct that early December is slow and Sun-Thurs nights are typically at deep discount. Make sure to sign up on the hotel web sites/guestbooks for email to get their room offers. If you are able to sign up for the slot clubs, you very well may get room offers for early December with minimal or no play.

Another thought: The Venetian has been fairly consistently available for Sun-Thurs for $99-129/night on Priceline (only 5* on strip offered at Priceline). Best success is about 10 days prior to travel but you can certainly try as soon as your dates are firm. See Biddingfortravel.com for more info. The Venetian is very convenient to TI/Mystere.

Traditionally all the Las Vegas Cirque shows are dark (not performing) the first half of December. Please check the web site before making plans.

After reading everyone's suggestions, I think we'll definitely see Mystere. According to the Treasure Island web site, Mystere does show dates for the days we'll be there.

I've never used Priceline before for booking hotel rooms. But I've always thought Priceline doesn't tell you what hotel your booking until after the fact. How exactly does it work? I really do want to stay at the Venetian. The rooms there look really great and they are nice and spacious too. I've stayed at Treasure Island before, as someone suggested, and it was fine. But as I said, I want the best possible, without giving away the farm, since I'm taking my mother. Besides, my mom is an artist and she's interested in seeing the art museum(s) at the Venetian. Also, about one year ago, I took her to a Wyndham spa here in South Florida. Although I thought it was very average, my mother thought it was "very classy." I want her to experience the Canyon Ranch Spa. at the Venetian, and find out what "classy" really means!
