I just received an email from Mandalay Bay offering 2for1 spa and 2for1 breakfast for $89 a night. How would this offer fare as compared to a Luxor special for $69 with two spa passes? I have already booked the Luxor but could change if consensus is that the Mandalay Bay is a much better property.

Thanks!

I have been going to Vegas for quite a while. I also play the "value" game, and have stayed at the following: Mandalay, Tropicana, Luxor, Venetian, Treasure Island, Ceasars, Bellagio, Harrahs, and the dreaded Imperial Palace. Many things can influence the perception of value, including things like the pool area (not so important in the winter time though). I agree that value is much more than simply a cheap rate (otherwise, the Strat, Sahara and others become viable).

If taking the wife:
1 - Venetian at $150/night. Watch for construction noise on the lower floors. Pay the $20/night for the strip view to ensure you don't get the noise. Rooms are huge (approx 700 sq. feet) and well appointed. You will certainly impress the wife here.

2 - Mandalay at $89 night. Rooms not nearly as large, but casinos/bars/grounds are very nice and a fun place to be. Views can be spectacular up the strip. Mandalay is at the south end of the strip though, so be prepared to walk. If you could get the $89/night in the summer when you could use all the water activities (beach, wavepool, etc.) this would be the value leader.

3 - Paris at $69 - Excellent location on the strip, rooms are a little nicer than Mandalay, mainly because they are newer. Can be very romantic with the Awful Tower (inside joke) and the Mon Ami Gabi resturant (get reservations early!). Possible to get terrific views of the fountains at Bellagio.

4 - Luxor at $69 - Stay in the Pyramid rooms the first time. Slanted glass walls are really something to remember. If you get lucky, the jacuzzi rooms have the tub right under the slanted windows so you can look striaght up. The four inclanators at each corner of the pyramid serve a bank of floors, so there is the potential to have to walk 1/2 way around the pyramid to your room. But compared to all the other walking you will do, perhaps this is no big deal.

Now, if this is a guys trip, Mandalay Bay hands down. Night clubs/lounge music will be great, fun place to stay up and gamble all night. $89 is a good rate for Mandalay. Second best would be Paris, but only for the location (easy to go to other casinos).

Hope this helps!

If you want more comments or detailed info, just drop me an email!
Thx,
Scott
