Any comments on the Monte Carlo?
 

I'm looking for a weekend trip to Vegas and found a reasonable Fri-Sun (3 nights) for around $250 at the Monte Carlo. Anyone have any positives/negatives on this hotel? Will it still pass the "impress the wife" test? (-=

We Don't want to pay the weekend high rates at the upper tier properties (Bellagio, Venetian,etc.) so wanted comments on the Monte Carlo or other reasonable strip casino(Luxor?)

While I haven't stayed at Monte Carlo, I have stayed and Luxor and found it OK. The problem with Luxor is that the inclinators are for specific floors, and you could have quite a trek to get to the inclinator for your floor.

I am a current fan of Bellagio (so I guess worse case you can always take the tram over quite easily). Have you checked on rates with AMEX? I got a great rate through the Platinum Travel Service of $139 per night that included breakfast.

Monte Carlo is fine. It's a very average resort hotel and has a tram to Bellagio. When my friends want to pay under $100/night I usually recommend, Monte Carlo, NYNY, or Luxor.

Unless you upgrade to one of their suites, I can't recommend the Monte Carlo. Their standard rooms are tiny. I'm talking "go out into the hall to change your mind" tiny. The "closet" doesn't have a door (its the motel 6 style polished metal bar in a recessed part of the wall near the bathroom). The theme of the hotel is boring, bordering on non-descript. On the plus side, the location is good, the Lance Burton magic show is excellent, and they have a nice brew pub.

The MGM is a better property in that neighborhood (avoid the emerald tower) as is the NY NY. I'd also recommend the Luxor, the rooms are slightly bigger, and how often do you get the chance to stay in a Pyramid? http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

I stayed at the Monte Carlo a couple of years ago for my bachelor party. All involved seemed to like it just fine. As others have said, it's nothing extraordinary. I don't remember the rooms being especially small. I thought that they were average.

The casino is quite nice in that it's laid out simply (i.e., it's hard to get lost, unlike the MGM).

The location of the Monte Carlo is very good because you can walk with relative ease all the way to Mandalay Bay at one end of the Strip and, with the help of the tram to Bellagio, walk all the way to the other end of the Strip.

If you found a good rate there, I'd definitely advise you to take it.

The Monte Carlo is average. In any other location it would be a great hotel, but in Vegas it pales in comparison to any of the newer hotels (Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Paris, Venetian, Luxor, Mirage, Caesars, even Treasure Island)

It's fine to stay in, but it would probably only garner a 'C' in the impress-the-wife test. I'd say the best values would Paris or Venetian.

Thanks for all the good feedback! I think we have decided to do two days at Paris and two days at Luxor. Any opinion on whether the Pyramid or Tower Rooms are preferred at Luxor?

Pyramid, for sure. Owtherwise it makes no sense to leave the Paris for another 'usual' hotel room, which is -in addition- much more inconvenient in terms of the position on the strip than the Paris is.

What would be a better mid-week value, Paris at $69 a night or Venetian at $150 a night? I don't mind paying the higher price if the rooms are worth that price. Any thoughts?

I would vote for the tower rooms as opposed to the pyramid unless they have been redone in the past couple of years. Took all my employees and after some of those in the pyramid saw the tower rooms, they were not happy.

As to the Venetian, their basic rooms are fantastic. I've heard that Paris is nice as well but have not seen them.

Also, we have stayed on priceline bids of $99 mid-week at the Venetian on a couple of occasions. I only noticed a little longer walk from the elevator. Room was still immaculate and very large.

Check biddingfortravel.com for recent successful bids. They were the only hotel in their category so there was no danger of getting something else but this could change. Check the lists.

Rooms at the Venetian are all junior suites, much bigger than the regular rooms at Paris. However, the rooms at Paris are nice rooms, especially if you can get a Bellagio view on a higher floor.
