Las Vegas Club sold to owners of The D casino

The Las Vegas Club, an aging Fremont Street casino that was partly closed more than two years ago, has been sold to a pair of other downtown casino owners.

Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the company that operates the property as well as the Plaza hotel-casino, announced in a statement today that the Las Vegas Club was sold to Derek and Greg Stevens, the owners of the D.

Jossel did not disclose a sales price. Clark County records indicate the property sold for $40 million, but it was not immediately clear if that included the business inside.

Not a big fan of either D or Golden Gate, but even if Motel 6 bought LVC it would have been an improvement. Just sad what it has become, I don't think I have stepped foot in there my last 3 trips downtown.

It is sad, what they did with the place. Perhaps the new owners can bring back it back to life. It is a complete joke now.

Bring back the Steak House, coffee shop, hotel rooms, valet and parking garage. Remove the puke smelling carpet, fix up the restrooms, bring back the Sports Book and tear down the wall they built to the 2nd floor and access to the "old" rear casino area.

This place is in a great location for Downtown Las Vegas. It is a win-win if the new owners do it right. Also, remove that gift shop the built on the front of the building.

I have no idea how they got away with not having 24/7 food offered in a coffee shop, as Las Vegas law requires - they only offered hot dogs at the bar.

This is a huge positive for Downtown LV! To the new owners - do it right! ^

Also, bring back the odds the "old" LVC used to offer. It is currently a complete joke.

More Downtown Las Vegas News

Instead of opening a new thread, I thought I would post this here:

Downtown Grand Hotel-Casino Will Announce Its Up for Sale

Just when you thought the Las Vegas casino landscape couldnt get any wilder, were hearing the Downtown Grand is set to announce its up for sale.

An official announcement Downtown Grand is on the market is expected within the next week.

I think this would be a great buy for Boyd Gaming if the price is right. They already operate the Cal!, Fremont and Main Street Station in Downtown Las Vegas. They have a huge locals following with the Sun Coast, Orleans, Gold Coast, Sam's Town and casinos all over the USA.

They operate the Cal! and Main Street Station (both a block off Fremont St, just like the Downtown Grand) by flying four 767 junket flights in each week from HNL to LAS. This is done with Vacations Hawaii, which I think they own.

The Downtown Grand has a great pool and they could cater this hotel to visitors from Hawaii and local Hawaiians (approx 20,000 live in Clark County) with Luau's a few days a week.

If they purchased this hotel (at a fire sale price) the could add more charter flts from HNL and perhaps run seasonal flts from OGG.

They could also look into junket flts from other cities on the Mainland or hook up with Allegiant or Sun Country.

I think this could work very well for Boyd Gaming. The other two that could make this work I think would be the owners of The D who just bought the Las Vegas Club or Michael Gaughan (owner of the South Point). Mr Gaughan's father (Jackie) was the king of Downtown Las Vegas Casinos for many, many years.

This is still a rumor. We will see.

Las Vegas Club to close at midnight Wednesday

The downtown Las Vegas Club, which was sold last week to the owners of the D Las Vegas, will close Wednesday at midnight.

PlayLV CEO Jonathan Jossel said Monday the 86-year-old sports-themed casino's table games closed over the weekend. All that's operating in the property at the corner Main Street and Fremont Street are several hundred slot machines and the casino cage.

"A lot of people are coming in to buy casino chips," Jossel said.

The hotel's 400 rooms and its restaurant closed a few years ago.

Good luck to those employees!
