Hotel recommendations for 50s something couple

We've never been to Vegas before - searched the forum for hotel recommendations for older couples but drew a blank.

We are going for 4 nights in April and looking for a 4-5 star property on or very near the strip. Interested in shows, good food and gambling not night clubs!

Thinking of the Luxor, Bellagio, Vdara and MGM Grand but really need advice!

TIA

I'd say either the Bellagio, Venetian or Palazzo. Probably better for your age group.

IMO: I think you should stay at the Bellagio, Vdara or also consider the Venetian. I don't think the MGM or Luxor is really a true "4" star hotel.

You can also try to stay at different hotels.

I'd add Aria to the list. While Vdara is next door to the Aria, the Vdara itself has no casino or real dining options.

It really depends on your budget, but I'd say Bellagio or Aria as well. They're both centrally located on the Strip and both properties offer some fantastic dining options. Neither one of them caters to the clubbers, so you won't have to deal with the loud noise like you would at Cosmo and Wynncore.

If the budget allows for it, I'd say the tower suites at Wynn. The Wynn side of things is less "clubby" than Encore in my experience, and the tower suites are more removed and very nice. Another very nice but also very expensive option is Mandarin Oriental. Otherwise I'd say Vdara, Venetian, or Bellagio.

Many thanks for all the advice guys - much appreciated. I'll check out prices and let you know later what we end up doing.

By the way am I right in thinking that we don't need a car in Vegas? I'm guessing you can walk most places or get a cab?

If you have Amex Platinum (per your profile), the Fine Hotels and Resorts program is often an excellent value for Las Vegas.

For this reason, I usually prefer Encore Panorama/Tower (price depending). Wynn is fine too. $80 breakfast credit per day, includes room service, $100 spa credit, early check in, late check out. Very competitive pricing usually.

Then I would consider Bellagio for you. (also part of FHR). You can often get fountain view rooms at reasonable prices.

IMHO I'd avoid Aria. The rooms are quite dark and it tries very hard to be hip.

I prefer to rent a car to have flexibility. Rates are usually cheap in Vegas. You can certainly walk up/down the strip if you like.

Enjoy!

If this is your first visit to LAS then I don't recommend getting a car. Just have fun and get familiar with the area.

Hadn't thought of that - thanks for the tip! Have called them and waiting for them to get back to me.

Skip Aria. It's nice, really, but it is also the least expensive 5 star and I have noticed it attracts a lot of early 20's and 30's. That changes the feeling. I am not saying that's bad, but if that's not the crowd you want to be around, it's not the place for you.

Personally, I haven't noticed a lot of 20-30 year olds at Aria. It's more of a convention hotel which is why I see a lot of 30-50 year olds on weekdays. The weekends are a mix of young and old.

If you really want to avoid the young ones then stay away from Planet Hollywood and Cosmo.

Not on the strip but the Hilton Grand Vacations Club on Karen can often be had very reasonably and is a really nice property that's quiet.

Thanks - will check it out particularly as I'm HH Gold but guess that won't count for much if anything in LV.
