Hotel help
Having a hard time finding something that really covers all these bases.
- Mid strip
- 4 or 5 star
- As small as possible so that it doesn't take 20 minutes to get from the lobby to the room
- Very nice room for under $350 a night
- MOST importantly, can let us get to the strip without tons of walking
I am traveling with an in-law who cannot walk long distances without having to sit down and take breaks. We are trying to work around this as best we can, knowing there will be a lot of walking to see the sights... we're trying to minimize it where we can.
The Signature looked good until I read often that the walk to the strip can be annoyingly long. Mandarin Oriental is ideal in most respects, but again looks like you have to walk thru a massive mall/plaza to get to the strip. Venetian/Palazzo/Bellagio are all under consideration, but again seem enormous and, depending on room placement, could severely impact the 'fun' of the visit.
I realize this is hard question to answer but I would appreciate thoughts. We will definitely drive when necessary, but plan on walking for mid-strip sights, eating, shows.
Value is less of a concern than the rest, but would be nice too

I travel sometimes with a friend and her husband and she has severe back issues so she also cannot walk for long distances without breaks.
Bellagio, and ask to be in the main tower near the elevator. Shorter walk to the lobby.
You have a much longer way to walk to the lobby if you stay in the Spa tower no matter where your room is.
Bally's could be a choice as well. North and South towers are about equal distance to the lobby, but I would choose South tower over the North, rooms are a bit newer.
Avoid Caesar's, no matter where you are the walk is MILES long.

going to be quite a bit of walking no matter what but based on all your criteria suggest Mandarin Oriental or Paris hotel. Paris has multiple entrances accessing to and from Las Vegas Blvd. It's main entrance is close to reception and then straight shot to elevators. Property map here. Estimated distance about 4 blocks.
MO is not too bad but depends on which floor the room is at you may have to take multiple elevators to get to ground level. When exiting, go to the right past the patisserie shop and you're on Las Vegas Blvd. From ground elevators estimated distance 2 blocks.
Venetian/Palazzo will be a hike. However, if you decide on this property get a room near elevators in the Venetian tower, go to second floor Grand Canal Shoppes, head towards the shops make a left and then out the doors and there are people movers taking you directly to Las Vegas Blvd (assuming the hamsters underneath are not conserving their energy that day). From second floor elevators estimated distance about 5 blocks to the people movers.
Have a nice time.

upcoming - harmon, cosmopolitan beach tower
interesting it seems mansion would be ground floor right near entrance
although not sure whether you can walk through that commercial building

Have you thought of renting a scooter during your visit? I have no idea what they run, but it may make the experience better for all. A quick google search (http://www.google.com/search?hl=&q=l...US368&ie=UTF-8) provides a few options.
Mrs. AZ has one of these and we take it everywhere we drive. It allows her to experience things that she would not be able if she had to walk...

How about a suite at Bill's Gaming Hall? Probably a 3* hotel at best, but it certainly gets you onto the Strip without re-enacting the Battan death march:

Would everyone agree that Signature MGM would be on the far end of what we are looking for?
Thanks for the scooter idea.
MO does fit the bill best overall, it seems, but would obviously be at the top end of the budget. Food for thought.

The Trump is the perfect property for you. 30 seconds from the door to the elevators with maximum 2 minute walk to your room. It is 1 minute off the strip by car.

Westin / Casuarina
If you go with the scooter idea then you can add the Westin to the list of hotel choices. It a decent hotel, quick walk to room (its not that big a hotel/casino). Easy parking (surface or garage). Its about a 2 block skoot to the strip at Flamingo/LVB.
You are looking at $159/night (average rate over weekday/weekend) straight from their website and then get the SPG points on top of that. And it looks like there are some specials that throw in the breakfast.

but also check all the popular websites for BBDs...
