Question KL809 To KUL

Folks,

Anybody know what 747 config serves this route on Fridays?
I've heard it alternates on certain days.

Will be travelling to AKL in November and am proposing to use this service to KL as the flight times are more convienient than the lunchtime MH flight (shame I'd like to try the new MH 747 configuration).

Also do KLM still have those nice business class seats available in the front of the economy section just behind the proper business class section on the lower floor? Enjoyed a very nice flight to KL a number of years ago in one of these seats.

Anybody any recent views/experiences of the MH Y class product?

Regards,
kmck

A quick check for November shows it listed as a 747 for Fridays and a 74M for most other days except Tuesday.

Not sure why you would bother about the config unless you really want to sit all the way down the back.

I think those are history, been replaced with a 3-2 config, though it has happened recently where there were few J pax and too many Y pax, so all the J pax were moved upstairs and elite Y pax got J seating in Rows 1-4 with economy class service. Why can't I ever have that kind of luck

Correct. The Business class seats (starting row 10) next to the galley have been replaced by normal seats (3-2) in 2004 on all 747's. This area is now reserved for select seating.

Bumping a year later...

ExpertFlyer is showing KL809 leaving AMS at 8:45PM on 14 Nov on a 747, and MH9017, which is a codeshare on KL metal, leaving at 9:00PM on the same day on a 744. Does this mean that KL are operating two 747s AMS-KUL within 15 minutes of each other on that day?

What I'm trying to do is get a pair of award seats BCN-KUL in J, and snag the MH codeshare (KL4103, MH metal) that leaves at noon but it's not coming up.

Anyone know?

KLM is never giving away award seats in D-class on the MH codeshare. Even an award on the KL809 AMS KUL will be very hard to get by and seats are usually only released at the very last moment, unless the flight is really not filling up, which hardly ever happens, as KL809/810 is always full in WBC. Even Z-class availability is a nightmare on KL809/810.

You will likely have an easier time trying to get your hands on a WBC award seat on KL837/838 AMS SIN AMS, where D-class is more regularly available, although availability is still not great.

As for the different timing between KL809 and MH9017, KLM has recently updated its schedule from the originally planned 21.00 departure to a new 20.45 departure. It is likely that MH has not yet adjusted its codeshared timing for the flight. There is most certainly only one flight, operating as KL809 AMS KUL CGK. In fact, this flight will only be operating 6 times weekly this winter because of lack of equipment at KL.

If you care to fly all the way up to CGK, which should be possible on an award, let me know so we can maybe meet up...
