Connection at AMS

Hi all,

Got a flight coming up with KLM which is CPH-AMS-DUB with a 45 mins connection at AMS (first time flying KLM and first time connecting in AMS). Am slightly concerned about the connection time but it's all on the same ticket so I know KLM have to get me back to Dublin somehow! Just wondering, do KLM do anything when a connection is ultra tight and if I do (unfortunately) miss the connection what do I have to do (I believe the flight to DUB is the last one of the day).

There won't be any special service to expedite your movements through the airport, apart from the short connections lane at passport control.

If the KLM computer thinks you will miss the connection you will most likely be automatically rebooked shortly before landing in AMS. If you disagree and think you can make it anyway feel free to run to the gate - if you make it there is a good chance to be put back on. If an overnight is required you won't get a hotel assigned automatically. Either go to a transfer desk to get one, or book something yourself and get it reimbursed later.

Don't worry too much - 45 minutes is not a lot, but certainly enough if the CPH flight is on time.

And if the computer thinks that you won't make it, however you do arrive at the gate on time (i.e. 15 min before departure), you could probably get Denied-Boarding compensation (On top of them still being required to transport you to DUB).

Have you successfully received such compensation yourself? Guess I need to wear my Hokas for the next connection through Amsterdam

Can I piggy back on this thread to avoid starting a new one.

I am FB Platinum, having taken advantage of the status match offered to people following the BA status meltdown. As such I am interested in flights from BRS or EXT, which are far more convenient than LHR of LGW. I was looking at flights to DPS, but some only have a 60 minute connection time in AMS. What is the KLM policy on re-booking people who miss their connection. For example if I miss the 8:50pm flight would they consider re-booking me onto the 9:50pm Emirates flight, an early morning departure the following day, or would I have to wait until the next KLM flight the following evening?

Just as well - because neither AF nor KL fly from LGW!!!

If you miss a 20:50 flight, by definition you're not going to be able to be rebooked onto a 21:50 flight - that flight will have "closed" before you even miss your flight. In any case, I have my doubts that AF/KL would rebook you onto EK; their schedule disruption guidelines allow, as a last resort, rebooking onto any carrier with which they have an interline e-ticket agreement - and I'm not sure that they have such an agreement with EK.

You'll be given a hotel voucher, sent to grab the hotel shuttle, and given a new boarding pass for some other flight the next day (not necessarily the same flight 24 hours later, but quite likely)

In any case, a 60 minute connection from non-Schengen to non-Schengen is eminently doable (the current official MCT is 55 minutes). You have no security and no passport control.

They do have an interline e-ticket agreement with EK.

But, as you said, the connection time pretty much guarantees that the flight will be closed by that point. Even if not, there's a high chance that the EK flight may not even have availability on it to get interlined over, not to mention potential hesitation from whatever agent you speak to in getting this done, though the PSL in my experience hasn't been terrible about these kind of things usually.

A 60 min NS to NS connection in AMS should be very easy to do, especially coming from the UK with no passport or security checks. I'd be comfortable with the odds of it going in my favor.
