Adding checked bag to an existing KLM booking
Hi all.
Adding a checked bag to my existing booking is showing as Ł26 each way on the KLM app. Am I right in thinking that this price will stay the same until 24 hours before departure after which it may increase by up to 55%?
I won't know until the last minute if I will need an extra bag and just wanted to check I am ok to wait 1-2 days before departure without the price increasing.
Thanks

You either pay the "online" fee in advance, or you pay the "airport" fee at the airport.
Fees don't increase as time passes; once you miss the online option, then there's only the higher airport fee available to you.

I have a similar issue to the OP - myself and 2 friends have a flight from INV - SFO coming up in a few weeks. Only myself has status (Platinum) with KLM and all our tickets are the cheapest ones which means only I get a free suitcase included. Our flights include a 2 Delta ones from AMS - ATL - SFO so currently the buy extra luggage option is not available to us on the app as it says we are flying with a different airline (Delta).
Was wondering if one of us upgrades to business on first leg at OLCI would the friendly rep at INV allow an extra suitcase to be added as upgrading to Business might be cheaper than paying on the day at the airport (if at all possible).

Sorry, but this is unclear (confusing) to me. Is this all on one ticket SFO to INV or AMS-INV is on separate tickets? And what do you mean by "Our flights include a 2 Delta ones from AMS - ATL - SFO". If you are in J for all the sectors but AMS-INV, you get the J allowance for bags for the entire itinerary. Please clarify.
"Unfortunately, it is not possible to buy additional baggage online for this flight, as it is operated by another airline. Please do so during online check-in".

Its all one booking. First flight from Inverness to Amsterdam is KLM amd the one from Amsterdam to Atlanta then from there to San Francisco is with Delta. When I go onto my booking and attempt to buy an additional piece of luggage the message is
"Unfortunately, it is not possible to buy additional baggage online for this flight, as it is operated by another airline. Please do so during online check-in".

It seems that all pax are in Economy Light, meaning that nobody has a checked baggage allowance for any of these flights (the OP appears to have status so he has 1 bag for all sectors).
I don't think the OP's idea of upgrading just INV-AMS will grant a checked baggage allowance also for AMS-ATL-SFO on Delta; certainly if it's a day-of-departure/OLCI offee upgrade I don't think it will work. And a "proper" upgrade in advance of just INV-AMS is likely to be obscenely expensive.
To the OP: have you tried buying the luggage on the Delta website?

As I understand it, they are all in Y for INV-AMS-ATL-SFO and the OP hopes that by upgrading just INV-AMS to J that a J baggage allowance will be offered for the entire journey.

Actually going on the Delta website, it says I have two free pieces of luggage allowed for their sections but the KLM one (which is obviously the first one) allowance is only one.
Probably will manage with only one suitcase between us but we are away to do a motorcycling trip in the Rockies so concern was all our gear would exceed the weight limit for one suitcase.
I think we will certainly be using the maximum weight allowed for our hand carried luggage.

Delta do have this thing where they appear to give the same luggage benefits applicable to a status customer to everyone else on the same reservation. Whether this also includes FB status pax and not just Skymiles I don’t know, but given that you report that Delta seems to think you have 2 bags each then that’s good news.
I can’t really see you fitting bike leathers for more than one person into a single suitcase, so my advice would be: pack what you each need, and see what happens. It sounds like your allowance is being observed by Delta for your buddies. And if not, will having to pay a fee to check a bag be the end of the world?
Enjoy the trip! I kind of wish I was tagging along too!

Worth noting that KL does normally honor online prices for extra baggage as well when impossible to buy online (common with codeshares). So there's no loss in doing it at the airport.
