Rebooking issues

I was originally flying YUL - AMS - GLA on Oct 19/20. KLM cancelled my AMS - GLA flight that was arriving at 10am. They rebooked me on a much later flight, with an 8 hour AMS layover. Far from ideal.

I found an AMS - ABZ flight, on KL, KL 1443, that will arrive at 10am, but KLM are acting as though this is impossible, despite the fact I can book the flight on their website.

How do I force them to book this flight for me? I have no interest in sitting in AMS for 8 hours.

Many thanks.

As an update, hopefully it will help others.

After going back and forth with KLM on twitter, and them insisting there was no space on KL1443, and that I cannot be booked on it. I literally went through the online "change my flight" process, and sent them screen shots of every stage, including selecting an EC seat and hte payment page. Then my booking was magically changed.

Honestly it was ridiculous, clearly they did not want to move me to this flight, I have no idea why, but the insistence, and strange verbiage, makes me wonder if there is far more at play than availability.

Perhaps they are planning to cut flights to Aberdeen next month, and want to have seats available to rebook pax? But that of course begs the question why they are still willing to sell ticket for that flight.

Lord knows, and now both my flights just got cancelled. Ready to throw my hands in the air.

At least now you get (more or less) free hands to get rebooked as you prefer. Do your research first before contacting KLM for rebooking.

Sheesh!

KLM and Schiphol seem to be working hand in hand to destroy their reputations for the foreseeable future!

What other options are they offering you this time round?

I know exactly what I want, it is available. But they were ridiculously obtuse after they cancelled my initial AMS - GLA flight. When asking for AMS - ABZ they were incredibly unhelpful, until I really forced the issue, politely, but with evidence the flights were there.

On hold now, on the extra special Silver line, which probably has longer waits than the regular one.

They have offered nothing. I only noticed the cancellation when I looked at the app to get flight times. No email notification, nothing.

As SK AAR says, your best course of action is to make sure you are in the driver's seat, so to speak. Thoroughly check what alternatives are available, rank them in order of preference, take a deep breath, and give KLM a call. Knowing what the options are and which you prefer strengthens your negotiating position appreciably.

Good luck!

Rebooked on my chosen flights, the agent said whoever rebooked earlier did not reissue the tickets, so it automatically cancelled. I have the new tickets now.

Ah, so that is why your flights got cancelled; due to no reissue of the ticket after being reboooked.

I hope your new itinerary suits you (better than the previous).

Is perfect thank you, it gets me to where I need to be, and without an 8 hour layover in AMS. Before covid that layover was a real treat for me, but no longer.

Oh, that's simply brilliant!

Just goes to show how important it is to assiduously double-check everything, and then check again just in case.

Round two of cancellations, on the same trip. Now they cancelled MAN to AMS on November 9th. KL1074. Of course no rebooking tool available, dealing with whoever answers on twitter at this point. Just misses the cut off for compensation too.
