Changing Flights
Hi Guys
I was wandering if anyone could help me with a few questions...
1) I have a flight booked going to Vancouver from Dublin via Amsterdam (Economy). I was wandering what way it works fees ways. I would like to change my flight coming home to a couple of weeks earlier. I saw it said there is a changing fee of 100EUR...do you have to pay the different between flights or just the 100EUR or wot?
2) Is there a limit to how close the flight you can change it?

It is almost impossible to answer your questions without knowing the specific fare rules of your fare. As a rough guide, tickets can be:
1) entirely non-flexible: no cancellation nor changes at all. These are normally only the very cheapest tickets.
2) entirely flexible: cancellable and changeable for no fee. These are the most expensive tickets.
3) semi-flexible: are changeable (more rarely cancellable) for a fee. That is the majority of fares. What that fee is will be specified in the fare rules. If you change a ticket, you will normally have to pay the change fee plus any difference in fare that may arise. There will be a difference in fare if, for instance, there no longer is any availability in the booking class your ticket was issued in and it is therefore necessary to upgrade your ticket to a higher booking class in which there is availability. There might also be some differences depending on whether you seek to modify your ticket before you have flown any segment or you want to modify the return after having already flown the outbound. If a ticket has not been flown at all, any change normally triggers a re-pricing of the ticket at current fares. So, if the fare you paid has been pulled by the airline in the meantime and the new fares are higher, you would have to pay the higher fare (plus the change fee) even if there is still availability in your original booking class. By contrast, changes after departure normally leads to the use of "historic fares" , i.e. the fares that were available at the time you originally booked your ticket. All of this, however, will be specified in the fare rules and if we do not know what the fare basis was, we can't know what the fare rules are.
The simplest thing to do would be to call KLM (assuming the ticket is with them) and ask them.
