Incredible captain despite delay

My flight was delayed from JFK to ONT about a month ago due to mechanical problems. We left to take off after two hours wait, but then corporate made him turn around because the delay was going to push him over the maximum flying time allowance. We returned to the gate, as we waited for another captain to arrive from his home in Long Island. The original captain felt so bad that we were delayed/they wouldn't let us off the plane to get food, that he went into the terminal and bought pizzas for the whole plane on his dime. Also got a $100 courtesy voucher for the delay. JetBlue is a stellar airline

That's very impressive. It's also one of those stories that has legs! It may not have been the skipper's intent, but most people on that plane will enjoy telling and retelling that story.

Not a story I know of several captains that have done it and have been on a delayed flight that it happened on. When we screw up or are delayed we right it with the customer.

Here's a similar story, also true:
Flight is delayed due to weather in major hub, and many business travelers are berating the gate agents (and a stewardess who was also behind the counter).
It was the stewardess' birthday.
Faced with a 3hr ground hold, a mellow business traveler orders an ice cream cake from the Baskin Robbins and has it delivered to the gate.
It makes the stewardess' day and also lightens the mood at the gate for the rest of the delay.
