New Routes

JetBlue Airways Corp.(JBLU.O: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to announce two new destination cities shortly as it seeks to focus on less competitive routes where it can charge more for tickets, its chief executive said on Tuesday.

"We're going to diversify the route system into a lot of new routes," David Neeleman told an investor conference. "We feel really good about what we're doing going forward."

In addition to the two destinations, which spokeswoman Jenny Dervin confirmed will be announced this Friday, the airline will open 7 new gates at its base airport, New York's JFK International, by June 1.

Maybe the long-rumored (locally anyway) service to GSP will start soon? I mean, what ARE they going to do with all those 190's coming online?? Just keep adding frequencies to existing routes?

My preference would be GSO, but my bets are on CLT and a small-ish market in the Midwest.

Theres soo many destinations that they could fly to, maybe STL and they can continue on to other west coast city and make STL a new focus city? Anyways, dont really know where they will fly to next... but the real question is where are the new 7 gates gonna be located at JFK. Cant be the old TWA terminal cause they tore it down to build the new terminal is theres nothing there now... maybe a remote site around JFK for the 190s and shuttle people over to it like how AA Eagle does it? That cant be it cause thats just gonna cause delays and increase turnover time, Dont know where in Terminal 6 they can jam 7 new gates at... I could see where 1 or 2 gates could go but not 7... Any ideas anyone as to where the 7 gates will magically apear in June?

I had heard that it'd be something temporary at term 5 but I agree, doesn't look like they could get that up and running by June 1...I'd expect something a la LGB's trailer park

I'd think AUS-IAD is possible. Perhaps AUS-LGB/OAK? Also, SAT?

I hate to burst your idea bubble but BDL is definately too close with razor thin profits at best. NYC-DFW is saturated pretty well by AA at all three NYC airport with CO with quite a few flight per day themselves out of EWR. I personally would love to see DFW service (I personally am not a fan of AA). I think B6 would do well. However, the undersever markets are a better look right now. OAK-DFW would probably come after JFK-DFW.

There still seem to be opportunities along the East Coast for jetBlue. Savannah, Charleston, maybe even a couple daily peak season flights to Wilmington NC. Just speculation, I don't know.

If they should enter the BDL market I can see it as flights to Florida only, and I highly doubt that they will do that why? Simple they recently opened up HPN (White Plains which is not far from BDL maybe 1 1/2 hrs) also theres BOS which is also a short drive away where they already have flights out West. So if they were going to do some Texas flights it would probably be out of BOS

B6 really should be looking to do 2 things as far as new routes go. 1)Starting E-190 service to underserved/way over priced markets to JFK(NYC) and/or BOS and 2)connecting dots to either MCO or the upstate NY airports where as demand requires.

Just my thoughts.

SAV, CHS, and HHH, it can be argued, are amongst the three most expensive airports to fly to, on the east coast. HHH does have new service by delta as a result of the US merger debacle . I read somewhere that CHS is the worst.

They might as well look into seasonal MYR traffic; but I think more Ohioians and PA'ians than NY'ers come down here.

With all the out of state plates I see down here, I'd be surprised if a JFK-CMH-MYR-CMH-JFK trip couldn't fill a daily 190; but leisure fares do not pay the bills....
