Flew DCA-JFK-AMS-JFK-DCA and after 2 weeks without any points posting I submitted an online points request. The request was "rejected" and the reason listed was "request not approved". I called and they credited the flights right away, but I only got 1 point for the entire trip. I paid $480 for the round-trip as a Blue Basic fare. He said this was calculated correctly because the base fare was only $1. When I look at the receipt the base fare was indeed only $1, but the "carrier imposed fee" was over $300. He insisted the carrier imposed fee should not be included when awarding points.

Is this a clever way for JetBlue to avoid giving out points by shifting their revenue almost entirely from "base fare" to "carrier imposed surcharge" and only awarding 1 point? Or was he incorrect and points should be awarded on the fee portion as well?

Yep. The TrueBlue program specifically says that points are earned on Base Fare only. The "carrier imposed surcharge" is a fuel surcharge on transatlantic flights.

Thanks for confirming. Strangely, I also found a post suggesting the opposite here. So who knows...

If earning 1 point on a $480 TATL is really the correct result, why don't they do this on domestic flights as well (always a $1 base fare with the remainder of the fare as a carrier imposed fee)?

As far as the post suggesting the opposite, it does not appear to be backed up by any published policy. If they do credit it in practice, then that's not something that's promised anywhere from what I can see. TrueBlue specifically says Base Fare on the earnings chart.

Because the fuel surcharges (for now) only appear to be charged on translatlantic flights, domestic bookings don't have this issue. But also realize that they'd be throwing away their entire rewards program if they did that.

How long do CC points/tiles take to post? Surprised it has taken more than a few days for me after my first statement closed.

My statement closed five days ago- and I am still waiting for my tiles to post.

January statement tiles take longer than normal. There is some semi-manual process for figuring out what calendar year your tiles belong to. Last year, my January tiles did not post until February.
