Transiting in KIX
We will transit in KIX (Osaka Kansai Int'l) without going into Japan. Books say int'l to int'l transit minimum is 1.5 hours. I looked at the airport layout, it's fairly simple, and we are transiting from ANA (Gate N12) to UA (Gate N10). Do we realy need 1.5 hours?
Is it like in NRT, that everyone has to go through a security check again when transiting? Where is the transfer desks, or they are close to the gates?
Thanks!

Surprised no one answered yet. I did int'l to domestic last trip and had to go through security but that was because of immigration and customs dumping me into the main terminal.
I was disappointed that the line for immigration had gotten much worse, approaching NRT levels.

You definitely go through a security check for an international-to-international connection at KIX. I'm not sure about transfer desks; I think ANA should be able to check you in for your UA flight, so you should already have a boarding pass.
Do you really need 1.5 hours? If nothing goes wrong and your arriving flight is exactly on time, then you will have a few minutes to wait between flights. However, to book these flights on one ticket, you will presumably have to follow the airlines' minimum connecting time rules.

I've only done this once a few years back........a NH person met me and few other pax (int'l-int'l transfers) and took us on the train to the main immigration hall........instead of going through immigration we were taken up a stair case and put through security check again(which took moments) and voila we were back where we started at the international departure gates.......hope this helps.

"took a train..." From the aorport diagram I didn't see train, but still look like it's not a long line waiting like the ones at the immigration. We will check in from HGH (Hangzhou, China) on ANA to arrive in KIX on a UA award ticket, then on another ticket on UA to fly from KIX to ORD. I am pretty sure in HGH NH will not be able to check us in 1)because it a separate ticket, 2) NH may contract someone else do the check in, so it may not be able to check the UA record. So we prepare to hold our (e) ticket until arrival in KIX.
If in the case we miss the flight, will UA put us on a later depart flight to HNL?

I was on one ticket NH to AC quite painless.........the people mover arrives and departs every few minutes, it takes about 1 minute to immigration........With regards to your UA specific question I hope it will be answered on the duplicate thread you started on the UA forum...........
