Some of the fares from YYZ to cities beyond Tokyo are less than the fares to Tokyo. So if you want to visit another city, and have some time, and may want to earn extra mileage, you might take a look at using Tokyo as a stopover. Some of these fares have minimum stay requirements, but there are some good fares to the western hemisphere (allowing stopovers) from Seoul.

I typically buy YYZ - SIN or sometimes SGN, do a 24-hour turnaround in the 'destination' and then stop in Tokyo for as long as I like. I have no experience with one-way fares in the market.
