Japanese Tunes
Per evergrn's request, here's a Music thread for your favorite Japanese music. I'll start off with a cultural song about life in Okinawa by Begin (ベギン). I was introduced to the band by a close Okinawan friend of mine. We'd listen to their music on the way to grab some 10円 Kirin mugs at the local izakayas, then head off to Karaoke where I sung in terrible Japanese. They've become one of my favorite bands in the last 20+ years.

It is! The part where it lists off Okinawan food is a tongue twister.

Ugh - in Ginza / Yurakucho these things pollute the air every other minute....

The would cheer inside -- but never let it known....

I escaped from Shanghai where they actually had nice Okinawan restaurants, to LA. I haven't found any Okinawan restaurants yet.

One of the most famous songs about Okinawa - Shimauta by The Boom:


Interestingly they're from Yamanashi.

I am a fan of はっぴいえんど。A band from the early 70's with a CSNY, Buffalo Springfield sound. One of the members was Haruomi Hosono who went on to found Yellow Magic Orchestra with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi.
