Itami or Kobe?

I'm planning on travelling from Sapporo to Okayama and have the option of either a 10.25am flight to Itami on ANA or a 10.45am flight to Kobe on Air Do. Hyperdia seems to indicate not much difference between time to destination but not having experienced either airport I'm not sure which would be more convenient. Any ideas?

Scott.

I'd opt for ITM. From there you can get a bus directly to Shin Osaka for the transfer to the Shinkansen.
(You could also connect via Haneda to Okayama airport).

Am I assuming correct that Air Do 116 (also code share as ANA 4816) departing Chitose at 18:10 (6:10 p.m.) arriving Okayama at 20:15 (8:50 p.m.) is arriving little too late at Okayama?

You could fly to Kobe and take a bus from Sannomiya station to cut your costs into half vs shinkansen.

Thanks everyone, I was looking at the direct flight to Okayama but I wanted to try and get in as early as I could that day. I have a rail pass so Shinkansen cost isn't an issue.

I'd go with Itami. As jib71 says, direct bus to Shin Osaka then catching the bullet train from there is the easier option. Unless you want to take a cab from Kobe airport to Shin Kobe, which could be expensive.

I've never been to Kobe Airport. But I have looked recently into flying there. It seems that, other than taxi, the only way to get to Kobe is by taking that Port Island train. Then you have a tricky transfer at Sannomiya to get on the subway. But the subway's Shin Kobe platform is a fair bit of walk away from the bullet train. Unless you want to take a cab, I don't see Kobe airport to Shin Kobe being an easy journey with bags and everything.

Thanks, looks like Itami is the winner.
