Sunday in Tokyo

I will be spending a few days in Tokyo before a business trip to Seoul next May, (which I'm really looking forward to!)

I may be able to adjust my schedule to get back to Tokyo on a Saturday evening leaving me the whole of Sunday available, before flying out from HND on the Monday.

I've searched through the forum, but wondered, is there anything I should definitely plan to do, or avoid on a Sunday in Tokyo?

Thanks in advance

One of my favorite Sunday things about Tokyo is street closures. During daytime hours they close off some of the main thoroughfares in busy areas to vehicular traffic and pedestrians can roam freely. Happens in Akihabara, Ginza, Shinjuku, I'm sure other areas as well. Also around the Imperial Palace, where you can borrow a bicycle and ride around, weather permitting. http://www.jbpi.or.jp/english/pc1.html

Corporate, bank, government, school, and factory workers get the day off but retail, entertainment, and restaurant establishments are almost always open. Department stores close once a week so that all the employees have the same day off--apparently they have never heard of staggered shifts--but they do not close on Sunday, which is a major shopping day for those corporate, bank, government, school, and factory workers.

You'll be able to do just about anything you want to do on a Sunday.

Mostly this is just in the afternoon and not in bad weather.

I can't think of any major department stores in Tokyo that aren't open seven days a week.

Well, maybe that has changed recently, but it was a long-standing custom.

Each department store chain used to have one day a week (not Sunday) when stores were closed. According to an article I've read department stores closed 19.6 days a year on average in 1996. By 2014 this was reduced to just 1.5 days a year! There is now a trend to increase the number of closed days by certain department stores to 3-5 days a year. But some department stores are open 365 days a year including the New Year's Day.
