Baggage Storage at Tokyo Train Stations

Would a medium sized station like Kamata or Shinjuku Sanchome have luggage storage facilities? If so, about how much do they cost and how large of a suitcase would they be able to fit (my biggest is about 29")?

JR Kamata (railway station) and Shinjuku Sanchome (subway station) are somewhat different types of station, but both of them have coin lockers

Sanchome (near exit E5)

Kamata (Two locations near the southern exit)

Why do you need the storage facilities, especially in those two places? The lockers tend to be on the small size, and the larger ones get snatched up quickly, even at stations that are larger than Kamata and Shinjuku-Sanchome.

If you have checked out of your hotel, the hotel will usually agree to hang onto your luggage until you are ready to move on to your next destination. The same is true if you arrive at the hotel before check-in time. Even the cheap business hotels will do this.

If you don't want to carry your luggage while traveling between cities, put your bare necessities into a small bag (if there's anything that's easy to find in Tokyo, it's shops that sell bags of every description) and have your hotel send it to the next hotel by takkyuubin. The cost will be about 2000 per bag. This is not at all unusual, and hotels know that they can expect the takkyuubin service to deliver a couple of suitcases every day.

29 inch is about 74 cm. You will need the largest locker.

I use this Japanese site for coin locker information:
http://coinlockersearch.com/shinjyuku3.html
http://coinlockersearch.com/kamata.html

At 3chome, only locations #2 and #6 have the largest locker size at 500 jpy per calendar day.
At Kamata, all 3 locker locations have the largest locker size at 500 to 600 jpy per calendar day.

Do standard rollaboards (22"x14"x9") fit in the medium sized lockers? I've read conflicting reports as to whether or not the lock mechanism takes up some of the stated space internally.

For a 29" bag, you need a large locker. As ksandness said, large station lockers are always a premium. No guarantee that one will be free.

Standard/typical JR station locker sizes are:
316355575(mm)
550355575(mm)
843355575(mm)

Some stations have bigger size ones.

Keep in mind that not all 22"x14"x9" are created equal. Mine is supposed to be that, but in actuality it's >23" high with wheels and handle.
