I don't think he implied otherwise -- though I would note that this year has been relatively calm in terms of strong hurricanes reaching Japan.
My LH flight back to HND has already been delayed 90 minutes by this. Here's hoping I don't get diverted!

I'm kind of hoping that the typhoon hits hard Monday morning so that I don't have to go to class.
I haven't finished my homework and don't feel like practicing kanji after my scotch and soda....

I just escaped the approaching phanphone system in NRT on MH89- it was raining steadily all morning in Narita and sure looks like going to cause some severe delays!
Safe travels everyone!

ANA has already announced flight cancellations for Monday, October 6 on flights departing HND before 2 p.m. and flights arriving HND before 3 p.m. For international flights departing NRT, ANA has not announced anything specific but mentioning expecting flight cancellations on Monday, October 6.
JAL has also announced cancellations of flights at HND on Monday, October 6. Morning flights and early afternoon flights are cancelled. Again, regarding flights out of NRT JAL is less specific about flight cancellations on Monday, October 6 but expecting flight cancellation at NRT on Monday, October 6.
JR has announced that in Osaka and Nagoya area there will be no train service from the first train in the morning on Monday, October 6 on many lines. Some lines will operate with delay and reduced schedule. However, for Tokyo area JR has announced major delay in service on Monday, October 6 but has not announced stoppage of the service in Tokyo area.

Got an email this AM from JL. JL5 JFK-NRT delayed for tomorrow by 3:15 to depart now at 16:30. But it sounds like that might change again from the above post.
Thank goodness for the notification so I was able to re-route via HKG to SIN. Since I would be missing the connection due to the delay AA didn't charge me anything to make the switch. But I did have to ping-pong back and forth with AA telling me to contact JL and JL telling me that AA had to make any changes. But it seemed like the place JL transferred me to at AA was one of their better agents as she was quickly able to accommodate me. (I'd already checked award availability and saw an open F seat on CX.) Ultimately it works better for me all the way around.
Best of luck to all of you in Japan.

I'm meeting a friend in Tokyo, we are both flying today:
Me: UA79 EWR -> NRT, delayed 3:20 so far
Her: flying Moscow -> NRT, they just took off...
Seems like Aeroflot has a different view on flying though a typhoon...

Flying through a typhoon is not a problem. Landing in one is. If the typhoon comes directly at NRT, there is probably a 2 or 3 hour gap when they can't land. Easy to circle or divert to NGO.
I had a flight (BA 744) where they tried to land in the eye of the typhoon. The 2 flights before ours got in, but we got waved off about 50 feet off the runway.
