Noma

Bookings for Noma's is about to begin (June 23, 2014).

Is anybody planning to go?

I have been toying with the idea but 40,000 plus minus per person per meal plus travel and accommodation with a non refundable deposit makes me wonder if it is really worth it.

Have I been brainwashed by the hype?

Noma is ranked number 1 restaurant in the world for a couple of years now.

I've been to the Copenhagen one. I'm assuming this one in Japan isn't something completely different that coincidentally has the same name.

The answer is no, it's not worth it. In terms of ingredient quality (superb ingredient quality does not equate superb taste) and chef's technique, there's no competition. But the food just isn't worth the money. I appreciate good food. It doesn't matter if the cow was treated like a king when it was alive or if it was treated like every other cow, if the steak tastes good, it tastes good. Appreciating a dish more just because the ingredients are better when you can't taste the difference is nothing but hype. Go to Eleven Madison Park in NY and get something just as good for half the cost.

As with all things, the marginal cost get higher and higher and the marginal return gets less and less the better it gets. At some point, it's just not worth the money.

Yeah, it's the same one.

They are closing the one in Copenhagen and opening this one in Tokyo for two months.

It's going to be an "once in a lifetime opportunity" but my hesitation is the same reason as you mentioned.

I agree with AGP423 too about value for money. If you're in the US or Europe there are far easier ways to have a great dining experience.
On the other hand some things are fun to do just for the heck of it.
Not sure what travelling there involves but I figure, if your disposable lets you do it, then go ahead.
It's only a short flight for me so I opted in. It has the added benefit of time in Tokyo to do some additional eating.
