Late train into Tokyo from NRT?

I was originally going to book a car, but I can't find my IDP, so I'm looking into trains (as a backup at the very least).

Last time I arrived I took the Keisei Skyliner which was great, but that was around noon.

The issue is I'm coming at 9:00pm (and probably looking at another 30 minutes for immigration and bags) on Friday night. From the scheduling websit, it says the last train leaves around that time, so will I be able to make it or is there a later train?

I know the subways don't run at nighttime, so when do the subways close at night?

I couldn't find the subway information online and the train situation I'm just downright confused about.

I want to avoid taking a cab. Last one cost me some $280… and I'm not going that route again if I can avoid it.

The last Narita Express is at 21:44. The last Narita Airport Rapid to Tokyo is at 22:16. The last Keisei Skyliner is at 22:18. The last Keisei Access Express to Ueno is at 22:29. The last Keisei Main Line Commuter Express is at 22:39.

You can definitely make one of these trains if your flight arrives on time.

The subways don't go at all close to Narita, but for what it's worth, the last train on most Tokyo subway lines is at about 12:15am-12:35am.

It all sounds like it'll be pretty close in terms of time. I also looked up my flight and historically it's pretty bad in terms of on-time performance. I'm going to see if I can change to an earlier flight, I should be able to work with going to the airport a few hours earlier than planned. Just have to move some things around.

Thanks for the timetable.

I meant taking the Keisei Skyliner into Tokyo (Ueno) and then taking the subway from there. I didn't want to end up in Tokyo only to find the subways stopped running.

The last Skyliner should get you in to Keisei Ueno station by 23:00, so you should still have plenty of time to connect to subway. If the subway stopped running when you arrive at Tokyo, you can still take taxi and cost a lot less than from NRT.

The bus services run later than the trains. The last Heiwa Kotsu bus is at 22:30, and the last limousine bus to TCAT is at 22:55. The last Keisei bus is at 23:15. Heiwa Kotsu and Keisei buses are the discount bus service priced at around 1000 yen.

As Keisei trains and buses have the latest departure times, I would just beeline to the Keisei counter and have them put me on the next Skyliner or bus.

Thanks everyone for you help.

I called my airline and they were able to change my flight to an earlier one. Due to the cheap fare class I chose, they weren't able to secure early afternoon flight, so instead I'm flying over in the morning for a noon arrival meaning no issues with trains and whatnot. Plus I get to spend an extra half day in Tokyo which should be nice.

The only thing is I have a long day tomorrow getting everything done.

Thanks!

There was a long thread a couple of weeks ago on the same topic. There are buses running until 23:00 and the bus is going to be as fast that time of day.

If you are flying ANA they will give you a free taxi if you are late and someone else reported that they were holding the last bus when the late NYC was delayed.

Yep, I was on the late afternoon NH flight from JFK and it was delayed nearly two hours, but we made up quite a bit of time flying. During descent, an announcement was made that they would be holding up the Airport Limousine buses for us; not every bus, but I do recall hearing TCAT, Yokohama and Shinjuku.
