Weather forecasts
What's a good source of weather forecasts while in Japan? I'll be in Tokyo and Kyoto in early September and I see that it's one of the wettest months. I'd like to be able to plan for day trips and such a few days ahead. Is there anything like the Weather Channel in Japan? I don't necessarily need to understand what they're saying as long as there are good maps and graphics. I know I could ask the hotel staff, but from past experience overseas they always seem to have a sunnier outlook! A good source in English would be best.

www.weather.com will provide forecasts for Tokyo and Kyoto in English - and as a bonus, you'll get the temperature in familiar units (R?).

Second Weather.com. In addition, I always check the local news on TV each morning when I get up. Even if you don't understand the language, they use cute animated weather maps that are pretty easy to figure out.

Another option in the Tokyo area is FEN (the Far Eastern Network of (U.S.) Armed Forces Radio).
Back in the olden days when I was a student in Tokyo, the TV weather forecasts never told you what the temperature was going to be, only whether it would rain or not. To decide whether to wear a jacket or coat on any given day, I'd tune into FEN (somewhere on the AM dial--I forget where), where they'd give the forecast temperatures for all the areas that had U.S. military bases.

The weather forecasts here have pretty low accuracy, though. I would advise you not to worry too much about what they say, and instead keep contingency plans for both rain and shine on any given day.

I use weather.com and make my plans based on the radar map.
